Jimmy Clanton – Jimmy’s Happy and Jimmy’s Blue 1960 Ace red and blue vinyl LPs

Two colored vinyl LPs by Jimmy Clanton – Jimmy’s Happy and Jimmy’s Blue, released in 1960 by Ace Records.

This item has been sold.

Offered for sale is a very rare pair of albums by pop singer Jimmy Clanton – Jimmy’s Happy, pressed on red vinyl and Jimmy’s Blue, pressed on blue vinyl.   They’re two separate albums, and were originally sold that way, but we’re offering them as a set.

About these copies: The copies offered for sale are the two individual albums, Jimmy’s Happy, and Jimmy’s Blue, sold as a pair, and pressed on colored vinyl with custom Jimmy Clanton labels.

Jimmy’s Happy (LP 1007)This red vinyl LP has a cover that’s VG+, with just slight foxing on the back cover.  The disc is VG+, with some sleeve scuffs.  The disc appears to have had little play.  There’s a small black ink spot on one side of the label.

Jimmy’s Blue (LP 1009) – – This blue vinyl LP has a VG+ cover with slight foxing on the back cover and a repaired 2″ seam split at the bottom near the mouth.  The disc is VG+, with some sleeve scuffs.  The disc appears to have had little play.

This is the first time we’ve seen either of these colored vinyl LPs in more than twenty years and the first time we’ve had either for sale.

They’re pretty good records, too.

Background: Jimmy Clanton was a pop singer and songwriter from the small town of Cut Off, Louisiana.  He had 7 Top 40 hits in the late 1950s and early 1960s, including “Just a Dream” and “Venus in Blue Jeans.”

He recorded for Jackson, Mississippi-based Ace Records, and sort of got lost in the shuffle, as the label’s more popular artists performed R&B and Jimmy was more of the white teen idol type.

You can listen to “Just a Dream” here:

These two albums from 1960 were briefly available on colored vinyl, with Jimmy’s Happy pressed on red vinyl and Jimmy’s Blue pressed on blue vinyl. We can’t confirm this, but we’ve heard that the colored vinyl copies of these two albums were only available by mail order to members of the Jimmy Clanton fan club, and that all of the copies sent to stores were pressed on black vinyl. Reportedly, only a few hundred copies of each were pressed on colored vinyl, and we know of no other colored vinyl albums on the Ace Label.

These two albums were also issued as a two record set (DLP 100), and again, some copies of that set were pressed with red and blue discs.  As both the individual albums and the double album were pressed at the same time, the labels for the individual albums have both their own catalog number (LP 1007 and LP 1008) and the catalog number of the double album (DLP 100.)  The colored vinyl pressings appear to be more common in the two record set than they are with the individual albums.
