Description
Offered for sale is a 1977 Japanese pressing of the double album Electric Ladyland by Jimi Hendrix, including the original obi.
This copy is a bit unusual; we know of at least seven Japanese vinyl releases of Electric Ladyland, but this is the only issue that used the U.S. cover art.
About this copy: This copy of Electric Ladyland is a 1977 Japanese issue on the Polydor label of an album that was originally issued in 1968.
The cover is VG, with quite a bit of edge and corner wear.
The obi is VG++ with slight foxing. The two booklets are VG++, with minor wrinkles.
The first disc is M- with a couple of spindle marks on the labels, but no marks on the vinyl. There’s a bit of foxing on the labels.
The second disc is M- on side three and VG++ on side four, with a tiny inaudible mark through the last track. There are a few spindle marks on the labels. They’re clean discs that have had relatively little play.
A nice copy of a classic LP and a fairly difficult one to find with this cover.
Background: Released in 1968, Electric Ladyland was the third album by the Jimi Hendrix Experience and the final studio album to be released in Hendrix’ lifetime.
The album was released in most countries with a cover depicting a number of nude women, though this cover was not used for the U.S. release.
The LP reached #1 in the U.S. and #6 in the UK.
Allmusic.com gave Electric Ladyland a rare 5 star review:
Jimi Hendrix’s third and final album with the original Experience found him taking his funk and psychedelic sounds to the absolute limit. The result was not only one of the best rock albums of the era, but also Hendrix’s original musical vision at its absolute apex. When revisionist rock critics refer to him as the maker of a generation’s mightiest dope music, this is the album they’re referring to.
