About this copy: This copy of Are You Experienced is a Japanese first pressing on the Polydor label, released in 1967 with the original catalog number of SLPM-1391.

Shortly after release, the record company changed the catalog number to SMP-1391.  This is a transitional copy that was pressed during the change; the record and cover have the original SLPM-1391 catalog number and the obi has the SMP-1391 catalog number.

This LP was features the same cover and track listing as the UK release.  Like the UK LP, this album was originally released in Japan only in mono.

The cover is VG+, with a record impression visible in the front cover and a bit of foxing, but no tears, writing, holes, or other significant marks.

The original obi is VG+, with a small tear on the back (see image.)

This LP was issued without a lyric insert.

The disc is M-, with a few spindle marks on the labels, but no marks on the vinyl.  Clean disc!

An astonishingly nice copy of one of the world’s rarest Jimi Hendrix LPs.

Background: Are You Experienced was the debut album by the Jimi Hendrix Experience and remains one of the most influential debut albums of all time.

The album reached #5 in the U.S. and #2 in the UK, and in the U.S., the album has since been certified five times platinum by the RIAA.

Allmusic.com gave Are You Experienced a rare 5 star review:

One of the most stunning debuts in rock history, and one of the definitive albums of the psychedelic era. On Are You Experienced?, Jimi Hendrix synthesized various elements of the cutting edge of 1967 rock into music that sounded both futuristic and rooted in the best traditions of rock, blues, pop, and soul. It was his mind-boggling guitar work, of course, that got most of the ink, building upon the experiments of British innovators like Jeff Beck and Pete Townshend to chart new sonic territories in feedback, distortion, and sheer volume. …Many of these songs are among Hendrix’s very finest; it may be true that he would continue to develop at a rapid pace throughout the rest of his brief career, but he would never surpass his first LP in terms of consistently high quality.
