Description

Offered for sale is a still sealed of the limited edition 4 LP box set The Jack Kerouac Collection, released in 1990 by Rhino Records.

About this copy: This copy of The Jack Kerouac Collection is a sealed pressing of the 4 LP set on the Rhino/World Beat label, including the original cover obi and booklet.

As the box is still sealed, the records are presumably new and unplayed.

The wrap is fully intact with no rips or tears.

A beautiful copy of a box set that’s quite hard to find on vinyl, as the vinyl pressings were quite limited.

Background: Jack Kerouac released three albums of spoken word material in his lifetime, and all have been hard to find for decades.

Due to collector demand, Rhino Records released The Jack Kerouac Collection in 1990, which included all three LPs in their original covers as well as a fourth LP of then-unreleased material and a booklet.

As vinyl wasn’t selling well in 1990, most of the copies sold were on cassette or compact disc, and the vinyl pressings were quite limited and became rare rather quickly.

Allmusic.com gave The Jack Kerouac Collection a 4 1/2 star review:

This… box set is centered on the reissue and restoration of Jack Kerouac’s three long-players: Poetry for the Beat Generation (1959), Blues and Haikus (1959), as well as Readings by Jack Kerouac on the Beat Generation(1960). The Jack Kerouac Collection (1990) also adds over a half-hour of previously unissued material. …Accompanying Kerouac on his spoken-word jazz odysseys are Steve Allen (piano) on Poetry for the Beat Generation as well as Zoot Sims (tenor sax) and Al Cohn (tenor sax) on Blues and Haikus. The Jack Kerouac Collection also includes a 32-page liner-notes booklet with essays and commentary from Ginsberg, Burroughs, Jerry Garcia, Ray Manzarek, David Perry, and Steve Allen, among others. There is also copious discographical, biographical, and bibliographical information as well. This set is an essential piece of Americana and is highly recommended for literary buffs and beatniks alike.
