Description

Offered for sale is an original Japanese white label promotional copy of Shinin’ On by Grand Funk, complete with original obi, 3D glasses, and 3D foldout booklet.  The glasses are still attached.

About this copy: This copy of Shinin’ On is an original 1974 Japanese promotional issue with white labels, rather than the colored labels used on the stock copies sold in stores.

The cover is VG++, with trace wear at the corners.

The 3D glasses are included, and are still completely attached to the front cover.

The obi is VG+, with some foxing on the back, but no tears.  There is cellophane tape residue on the back of the obi.

A 12 page lyric/bio/tour date booklet is included with information in English and Japanese.  The cover of the book folds out into a 12″x24″ 3D poster.

The record is M- and may be unplayed.

A nice copy of an album that has become quite hard to find complete and the only Japanese promotional pressing of this LP we’ve ever had for sale.

Background: Shinin’ On was the eighth studio album by Grand Funk, and reached #5 on the U.S. album charts, helped by the title track as a single, and a remake of “The Loco-Motion,” which had been a hit for Little Eva in the early 1960s.

Allmusic.com gave Shinin’ On this review:

After racking up their biggest success to date with We’re an American Band, Grand Funk Railroad decided to keep a good thing going by retaining Todd Rundgren as their producer and continuing to push their sound in a pop/rock direction. The end result has its moments but is not as strong as We’re an American Band. … Shinin’ On’s best songs are the ones that became its single releases: the title track infuses its hard-driving, spacy rock groove with some surprisingly ethereal vocal harmonies and the cover of “The Loco Motion” turns this dance classic on its ear with a stomping beat and a screeching guitar lead from Mark Farner. …Shinin’ On is too unfocused and uneven to win over non-fans but Grand Funk Railroad fans will find plenty to enjoy on this album.
