Offered for sale is a sealed copy of a scarce 1994 pressing of Grand Funk Railroad’s 1970 LP, Closer to Home.
About this copy: This copy is a sealed reissue from 1994, made at a time when very few records were being pressed in the United States. We’re not sure if this album was pressed for a record club, but it does say “CEMA Special Markets” on the back cover. Unlike earlier issues, this copy does not have a gatefold cover.
The album is still sealed and is presumably new and unplayed. The shrink wrap is tight and fully intact.
A nice copy of a scarce Grand Funk LP.
Background: Grand Funk Railroad was known early on as a hard rocking band that was loud and had little in the way of subtlety. Closer to Home changed that, and the song “I’m Your Captain” got a lot of FM airplay and still gets played today.
Allmusic gave the album 4 stars:
Closer to Home, the trio’s third album, was the record that really broke them through to the commercially successful level of metal masters such as Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. Rather than rushing headlong into their typical hard, heavy, and overamplified approach, Grand Funk Railroad began expanding their production values. Grand Funk Railroad are able to retain the often-elusive melodic element to their heavy compositions.
