Offered for sale is a Japanese pressing of Phoenix by Grand Funk Railroad, including the original obi.
About this copy: This copy of Phoenix is a 1973 Japanese pressing on the Capitol label of an album that was originally released in 1972.
The only difference between the two pressing is the price; the 1972 issue had a ¥2000 price printed on the obi and cover. The 1973 issue printed the price as ¥2200.
Unlike earlier Grand Funk Railroad LPs from Japan, all copies of Phoenix were pressed on black vinyl.
The cover is VG++ and close to M- with trace edge and corner wear. The obi is M-. The insert is M-.
The record is M- and looks unplayed. Clean disc!
A nice copy of a scarce Grand Funk LP that’s hard to find complete.
Background: Released in 1972, Phoenix was the seventh album by Grand Funk Railroad.
The album reached #7 on the U.S. album chart.

After releasing five studio albums in a little over two years, Grand Funk waited more than a year before releasing Phoenix, and in that time they managed to come up with more variety than they had displayed before. “Someone,” for example, was a surprisingly gentle ballad, and “Rain Keeps Fallin'” was stronger melodically than most of songwriter Mark Farner’s previous efforts. Unlike earlier albums, Phoenix didn’t seem like one rudimentary rocker after another, which made it Grand Funk’s most listenable album so far. And that’s not to say it didn’t rock, as the leadoff instrumental, “Flight of the Phoenix,” and the Top 40 hit that closed the set, “Rock ‘n Roll Soul,” demonstrated.
