Background: The Golden Cups were one of the top bands in Japan in the late 1960s, and a couple of band members had previously spent some time in the United States, and they were heavily influenced by their time there.
Their debut LP, Golden Cups Album, is a mixture of vocal and instrumental tracks, and a mixture of originals and covers. Their material ranged from pedestrian to “truly out there,” as their cover of “Hey Joe” will attest.
