Offered for sale is a still sealed original U.S. pressing of From Genesis to Revelation, the debut LP by Genesis.
This LP was released in the UK in 1969, but was not released in the U.S. until 1974.
About this copy: This copy of From Genesis to Revelation is a 1974 pressing on the London label.
As the album is still sealed, the record is presumably new and unplayed.
This copy is unusual in that it has no cutout marks of any kind. The album sold quite poorly when first released, and most copies we’ve seen over the years had cut corners on the cover. This one does not.
The wrap is fully intact with no rips, tears, or holes. There is a large “breath hole” in the wrap in the center of the front cover.
A beautiful copy of a hard to find Genesis LP.
Background: Released in 1969, From Genesis to Revelation was the first album by Genesis.
The album was originally released only in the UK and it did not chart. It was released in 1974 in the U.S. and in 1976 in Japan, after the band had become famous. The U.S. release briefly made the Billboard charts, peaking at #170.
This debut Genesis album, which has appeared under license to various labels in addition to Decca and London in different configurations, is largely of historical interest. The group was still in its formative stages, the members barely past their 18th birthdays and still working out what they wanted to sound like. Mostly they sound like the Bee Gees trying to be the Moody Blues (picture something similar to the sound of the former group’s Odessa album)….A pleasant enough piece of pop-psychedelia/art rock, but not a critically important release, except to the truly dedicated.
