Offered for sale is a rare mono white label promotional copy of the 1968 LP Gary Puckett and the Union Gap Featuring Young Girl.
About this copy: This copy is a rare white label promotional copy in mono. The cover is a stereo cover with a sticker that reads “SPECIAL MONO RADIO STATION COPY” as well as a timing strip.
The cover is VG, with slight general wear and more wear at the edges and corners, but no splits or tears.
The mono white label promotional disc is VG++, with a few faint scuffs and a number of spindle marks. Despite being a mono issue (the label clearly says “MONO,” the label has the CS 9664 stereo catalog number on it.
A nice copy of an LP that’s very hard to find in mono.
Background: Gary Puckett and the Union Gap Featuring Young Girl was the second LP from the group, and one of the last LPs on the Columbia label to be released in both stereo and mono.
While there were a handful of mono copies sent to stores, most mono copies were white label promotional issues, sent out in stereo covers and bearing the stereo catalog number.
The LP peaked at #21 on the U.S. album charts, helped by the single “Young Girl,” which reached #2.
