Offered for sale are two original Japanese copies of the 1961 LP Ring-A-Ding-Ding by Frank Sinatra, one in mono and one in stereo. Both include the original obi.
About these copies: We cannot emphasize how rare it is to find any album by any artist from 1961 that has the original obi still intact, and here we have a matching pair! What we’re offering here are two Japanese copies of Ring-A-Ding-Ding – one in mono and one in stereo, and both including the original inner sleeve and obi. We believe these to be the first pressings on the early Reprise label that featured a stern-looking Frank Sinatra photo.
Both copies are absolutely gorgeous – the mono cover does have a small (3/4″) tear near the mouth that has been secured with tape. Otherwise, aside from an impression in the cover from the record inside, both covers are M-.
The discs are both M-. The mono disc has a couple of very faint scuffs from being removed from the paper inner sleeve, but no spindle marks or other signs of play. The stereo copy is M- and may be unplayed.
This album was originally issued without a lyric insert. Both LPs include the original obi.
Two beautiful copies of a great album that would be hard to upgrade.
Background: Ring-A-Ding-Ding was not only Frank Sinatra’s first LP for his own Reprise Records label, but it was the first album released by the label at all. Sinatra created the label to be one that he and his friends could use and one that would be more “artist friendly” than the major labels of the time were.
Released in 1961, Ring-A-Ding-Ding was an album of all uptempo songs, and it reached #4 on the Billboard album charts.

In Japan, as in the United States, Ring-A-Ding-Ding was released in both mono and stereo. The Japanese were “early adopters” of stereo sound, however, and by the mid-1960s, record companies there had stopped pressing mono LPs completely, making the mono version of the album quite rare in comparison to its stereo counterpart.
