Description

Offered for sale is an original Japanese pressing of the 3 LP live album Welcome Back My Friends to the Show That Never Ends by Emerson, Lake & Palmer, complete with original obi and insert.

About this copy: This copy of Welcome Back My Friends to the Show That Never Ends is a 1980 pressing on the Manticore label of an album that was originally released in 1974.

This LP was pressed from the same stampers as the original 1974 release, as  the original catalog numbers are stamped in the dead wax.

The cover is VG++, with trace corner and edge wear.

The obi is VG, with no tears, but with considerable fading on the left side.  The insert is M-.

The three discs are M- and may be unplayed, as there are no spindle marks on any of the labels.  There is a tiny inaudible mark at the beginning of side 6.

A beautiful copy of an LP that’s hard to find in this condition, as the cover is rather fragile.

Background: Released in 1974, Welcome Back My Friends to the Show That Never Ends was the second live album by Emerson, Lake & Palmer.  Released as a triple LP, the album sold surprisingly well for such an expensive album , reaching #6 on the UK charts and #4 in the U.S., where it was the band’s highest-charting album ever.

Allmusic.com gave Welcome Back My Friends to the Show That Never Ends a 3 star review:

Upon its release, the 1973 LP Brain Salad Surgery had been hailed as Emerson, Lake & Palmer’s masterpiece. A long tour ensued that left the trio flushed and begging for time off. Before disbanding for three years, they assembled a three-LP live set (something of a badge of achievement at the time, earned by Yes in 1973 with Yessongs and, somewhat more dubiously, Leon Russell with Leon Live). Welcome Back My Friends to the Show That Never Ends gives a very accurate representation of ELP’s shows at the time, including their uncertain sound quality. …Hearing any of those three pieces (and the stunning “Toccata”) performed live, obviously without any overdubs, makes one realize how accomplished these musicians were, and how well they worked together when the going was good.
