Description

Offered for sale is a still sealed digitally remastered mono pressing of Elvis Presley, the debut album by Elvis Presley, complete with the original “obi” banner.

About this copy: This copy of Elvis Presley is a 1984 pressing on the RCA label of an album that was originally released in 1956.

As the record is still sealed, the disc is presumably new and unplayed.

The “obi” banner reads, “A Collectible – The Definitive Rock Classic Restored To Original Mono Digitally Remastered Quality Pressing On Heavy Virgin Vinyl.”

The wrap is fully intact with no rips, tears, or holes.  The “obi” is fully intact with no tears.  There is a sticker on the wrap indicating that it was imported from the United States, as this particular copy was originally sold in Canada, though it is a U.S. pressing.

A bonus photo card is included that lists other Elvis titles that were for sale at the time.

A nice copy of a classic LP that is very difficult to find complete, as the banner was usually discarded after purchase.

Background:  Released in March, 1956, Elvis Presley was the first album by Elvis Presley.

The album reached #1 on the U.S. charts and remains one of the most significant releases in rock history.

The album was originally released in mono, but in the late 1950s, a rechanneled stereo version became available for stereo buyers.  This version added a lot of reverb and sounded terrible compared to the original mono.

When mono albums were discontinued in 1968, the “fake stereo” version of this album was the only version available for purchase.

In 1984, RCA Records finally reissued the album in the original mono and pressed the records on high-quality virgin vinyl.  These releases had a banner, similar to the “obi” found on Japanese releases, that advertised the albums virtues.

Allmusic.com gave Elvis Presley a 5 star review:

The album Sholes wanted out of Elvis came from two groups of sessions in January and February, augmented by five previously unissued songs from the Sun library. This was as startling a debut record as any ever made, representing every side of Elvis’ musical influences except gospel — rockabilly, blues, R&B, country, and pop were all here in an explosive and seductive combination. Elvis Presley became the first rock & roll album to reach the number one spot on the national charts, and RCA’s first million dollar-earning pop album.
