Description

Offered for sale is a still sealed limited edition yellow vinyl pressing of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road by Elton John, released in the UK in 1978.

About this copy: This copy of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road is a 1978 pressing on the DJM label.

These pressings were made for export only, with the words “yellow limited edition” etched in the dead wax.

As the album is still sealed, the records are presumably new and unplayed.  The wrap is largely intact except for a 4″ (10 cm) break at the mouth of the cover.  We’ve secured this with tape to prevent further tears in the wrap.

There is a hype sticker on the cover that says “Limited Edition 2 LP set on Yellow Vinyl.”  The sticker is slightly smudged.  Two stickers from the original retailer are attached to the wrap.

A nearly perfect copy of a classic LP and the first sealed copy we’ve seen since the album was first released.

Background:  Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, originally released in 1973, was a huge success, topping the album charts in both the U.S. and the UK, helped by the success of four singles – “Bennie and the Jets,” “Saturday Night’s All Right for Fighting,” “Candle in the Wind,” and the title cut, “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.”

Allmusic.com gave Goodbye Yellow Brick Road a 4 1/2 star review:

It was designed to be a blockbuster and it was. Prior to Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Elton John had hits — his second album, Elton John, went Top 10 in the U.S. and U.K., and he had smash singles in “Crocodile Rock” and “Daniel” — but this 1973 album was a statement of purpose spilling over two LPs, which was all the better to showcase every element of John’s spangled personality. … This touched on everything John did before, and suggested ways he’d move in the near-future, and that sprawl is always messy but usually delightful, a testament to Elton’s ’70s power as a star and a musician.

In the late 1970s, collectors were showing a lot of interest in picture discs and colored vinyl, so record companies around the world issued a number of popular titles in both formats as limited edition pressings.  Among them was Elton John’s 1973 LP, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, which was issued in the UK as a limited edition on yellow vinyl.
