Offered for sale is a limited edition picture disc of Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy, issued in the UK in 1978.
In the late 1970s, collectors were paying high prices for picture discs that had been issued only to radio stations, so record companies began issuing both then-new and older titles in that format on a limited edition basis.
One of those titles was Elton John’s Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy, which was then a three year old album that was still selling well. DJM Records in Great Britain issued the album as a limited edition in 1978.
Here’s what Allmusic.com had to say about Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy in their 5 star review:
Sitting atop the charts in 1975, Elton John and Bernie Taupin recalled their rise to power in Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy, their first explicitly conceptual effort since Tumbleweed Connection. It’s no coincidence that it’s their best album since then, showcasing each at the peak of his power, as John crafts supple, elastic, versatile pop and Taupin’s inscrutable wordplay is evocative, even moving.
