A possibly unique white vinyl test pressing of the first album by The Doors, pressed by RTI
Offered for sale is a test pressing of the first album by the Doors, pressed on white vinyl by RTI.
This is one of the rarest records we’ve ever offered for sale, and it might possibly be unique. This white vinyl pressing of the first album by The Doors, originally issued in 1967 on Elektra Records, was pressed in 2007 by RTI as a test issue for the series of reissues by the band by Rhino Records.
For reasons unknown, this particular copy was pressed on white vinyl, rather than the standard black. The issues by Rhino were released as planned in 2009, but all commercially available pressings were issued on black vinyl.
Until a recent Record Store Day release of Absolutely Live, this record was literally the only legitimate, non-bootleg U.S. colored vinyl LP by the Doors, period.
The record is M-, and has just a couple of spindle marks on the side 1 label. There is no label on side 2. The date and the catalog number are written in ballpoint pen on the side 1 label. Also included is a M- stock cover from the Rhino pressing, along with the replica vintage Elektra inner sleeve that accompanied the stock black vinyl release.
A beautiful copy of an ultra-rare, and possibly one of a kind pressing of a classic album.
