A white label promotional copy of the double album The Best of the Doors by the Doors, pressed on promo-only high quality audiophile vinyl.

This item has been sold.

Offered for sale is a U.S. white label promotional copy of the double album The Best of the Doors by the Doors, pressed on high-quality vinyl that was used only for promotional issues.

For some reason, these pressings were quite limited, and are rather rare for a mid-1980s promotional release by a major artist.

This album was sealed when we acquired it, but we weren’t sure if the wrap was original so we opened it to be sure.  The discs look unplayed.

About this copy: This copy of The Best of the Doors is an original 1985 pressing on the Elektra label.

The cover is M- and is still in shrink wrap.

The wrap is fully intact except for a minor tear on the front near the top.   A small area on the back cover has been cut away to remove a promotional stamp.  There is a small saw mark on the spine; all promotional copies have this.

There are two stickers on the cover – one says, “SPECIALLY PRICED 2-RECORD SET featuring 18 DIGITALLY REMASTERED DOORS CLASSICS.”

The other sticker says “Pressed on high-quality audiophile vinyl.”  This high-quality translucent vinyl was used only on promotional copies.

The discs are M- and are likely unplayed.  They do have a minor amount of “haze” on the playing surface due to spending 35 years in a paper sleeve without being removed.

A beautiful copy of a nice-sounding Doors set and only the second copy we’ve ever had for sale.

Background: Released in 1985, The Best of the Doors was the second U.S. album to bear that title, after a single-disc album that was released in 1973.

The album reached #32 on the U.S. charts and has sold more than ten million copies. gave The Best of the Doors a 4 1/2 star review:

Ideally, one would avoid compilations of the Doors’ work, except perhaps for the hit singles and moments when one wanted very light listening. This was a band that took itself very seriously, almost to the point of self-parody at times, and their music ought to be discovered in the setting and context in which it was intended, but assuming that one needs a Doors anthology, this 18-track collection (19 on CD) is the place to start.
