This item has been sold.

Offered for sale is a still sealed early stereo U.S. pressing of Time Out by Dave Brubeck, on the Columbia “6 eye” label.

While the shrink wrap has been removed from the cover, the record is still sealed in the plastic inner sleeve.

About this copy:  This copy of Time Out is an early stereo pressing (matrix numbers end in -2AL and -BL) on the original Columbia “6 eye” label that was in use from the time of the album’s original 1959 release until late 1962.

This is a second issue, as the LP cover does mention the song “Take Five” and the label does have a small “CBS” at the very top, which was added to the label in 1961.  This pressing is likely from late 1961 or early 1962.

As the record is still sealed, it is presumably new and unplayed.

The inner sleeve has no rips, tears, or holes, and the perforated “tear off” strip is fully attached.

A gorgeous copy of an iconic jazz album and perhaps the nicest stereo copy we’ve ever had for sale.  This copy will be difficult to upgrade.

Background: There isn’t much to say about Time Out that hasn’t been said before; the album is generally regarded as one of the greatest jazz albums of all time, and perhaps one of the greatest albums of all time regardless of genre. gave Time Out a 5 star review:

Dave Brubeck’s defining masterpiece, Time Out is one of the most rhythmically innovative albums in jazz history, the first to consciously explore time signatures outside of the standard 4/4 beat or 3/4 waltz time. It was a risky move — Brubeck’s record company wasn’t keen on releasing such an arty project, and many critics initially roasted him for tampering with jazz’s rhythmic foundation. But for once, public taste was more advanced than that of the critics. Buoyed by a hit single in altoist Paul Desmond’s ubiquitous “Take Five,” Time Out became an unexpectedly huge success, and still ranks as one of the most popular jazz albums ever.  This belongs in even the most rudimentary jazz collection.
