Background: Released in 1960, Bernstein Plays Brubeck Plays Bernstein was the thirty-third album by Dave Brubeck, this one in collaboration with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Leonard Bernstein.
For this historic LP, the Dave Brubeck Quartet met with The New York Philhamonic under the direction of Leonard Bernstein for a program subtitled “Bernstein Plays Brubeck Plays Bernstein.” Together they perform Howard Brubeck’s sidelong “Dialogues for Jazz Combo and Orchestra” along with five Bernstein songs (including four from West Side Story).
