Description

Offered for sale is an original Japanese pressing of the double live album 4 Way Street by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, including the original die-cut “Rock Age” obi.

“Rock Age” was a short-lived series of albums offered in Japan in May-August, 1971 by Warner-Pioneer, featuring artists on Warner Brothers/Atlantic/Reprise and related labels.  All had the unusual die-cut “flower” obi.  These were quite fragile and are usually missing.

About this copy: This copy of 4 Way Street is an original 1971 issue on the Atlantic label.

The cover is VG+, with slight edge and corner wear.  The rare “Rock Age” obi is VG, with a few wrinkles and minor folds, but no tears.  The “hojyuhyo” (reorder tag) has been removed.

The insert is VG++ with a couple of minor wrinkles.

The discs are VG++, and close to M- with a couple of faint inaudible sleeve scuffs.  The discs appear to have been played only a handful of times.

A beautiful copy of a classic live album that’s hard to find as a first pressing.

Background:  Released in April, 1971, 4 Way Street was the first live album by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.  The album reached #1 on the U.S. charts and has sold more than 4 million copies.

Allmusic.com gave 4 Way Street a 4 1/2 star review:

But then came 4 Way Street, released in April of 1971: a live double-LP set, chock-full of superb music distilled down from a bunch of nights on that tour that more than fulfilled the promise of the group. Indeed, contained on those original four LP sides was the embodiment of everything great that the unique ethos behind this group — which was not a “group” but four individuals working together — might have yielded. Each of the participants got to show off a significant chunk of his best work, whether presented alone or in tandem with the others, and the shared repertory — “Long Time Gone,” “Ohio” etc. — binding it all together as more than a documentary of some joint appearances.
