An original German pressing of Claudine Longet's 1967 LP, The Look of Love.
Offered for sale is an original German pressing of Claudine Longet’s 1967 LP, The Look of Love.
Today, Claudine Longet is probably best remembered for her 1974 trial for the shooting death of her boyfriend, skier Spider Sabich. In the 1960s, however, she was well known as an actress, a singer, and as the wife of pop singer Andy Williams. As a singer, she never really tore up the pop charts, but she did have four of her albums chart on the Billboard charts in the U.S.
The Look of Love is probably her best, and best-known effort. AllMusic.com had this to say about it:
The Look of Love remains the creative zenith of Claudine Longet’s A&M tenure. Arranger Nick DeCaro and producer Tommy LiPuma weave together elements of soft pop, jazz, and bossa nova to create a fairy-dust suite perfectly modulated to Longet’s breathy allure, rendering moot her obvious vocal limitations via the perfect combination of singer, songs, and sound. Material like the Brill Building gem “I Love How You Love Me,” Margo Guryan’s “Think of Rain,” and the Bacharach/David title cut envelop Longet in a potently romantic atmosphere that underscores the innocence and intimacy so central to her identity. Rarely have albums forged from so little yielded so much.
The copy offered for sale is an original German pressing of The Look of Love, on the original brown A&M label and pressed on surprisingly thick vinyl. The record is in M- condition and has obviously been played only a couple of times. The cover is VG+, with some wear on the spine and a bent corner.
A nice copy of a great piece of 1960s pop.
