Offered for sale is a still sealed picture disc of Boston’s second LP, Don’t Look Back, issued only as a promotional item.
After Boston’s 1976 self-titled first album became the biggest-selling debut album in history, buyers were eager for the release of their second album, 1978’s Don’t Look Back. The album didn’t really need any promotional help in making sales, but Epic chose to send radio stations a copy of the album in picture disc form, anyway.
Picture discs make odd promotional items, as their sound quality isn’t good enough for airplay. In fact, this one says so right on the cover – “Not intended for normal play.”
About the time this album was released, Epic released the first album as a picture disc, but that one was a commercial release, and is much more common than this one, which was sent only to radio stations. We think this is the better looking of the two picture discs, and collectors seem to agree.
About this record: This copy of Don’t Look Back is a still sealed picture disc; the record is presumably new and unplayed. The shrinkwrap is fully intact except for a 2″ square piece of missing wrap in the upper right hand corner. Other than that, there are no rips, tears or holes in the wrap or the cover.
A gorgeous copy of a rare and attractive picture disc, and the first copy we’ve had in more than 25 years.
