Offered for sale is a U.S. picture disc of Boston’s second LP, Don’t Look Back, issued only as a promotional item.
About this copy: This copy of Don’t Look Back is an original 1978 promo-only issue on the Epic label.
The cover still has the original shrink wrap. It’s M-, but does have a bent corner and a bit of fading on the right hand edge. There’s a small tear in the wrap near the bottom center of the back cover.
The disc is M- and may be unplayed.
A gorgeous copy of a rare and attractive picture disc.
Background: After Boston’s 1976 self-titled first album became the biggest-selling debut album in history, buyers were eager for the release of their second album, 1978’s Don’t Look Back. The album didn’t really need any promotional help in making sales, but Epic chose to send radio stations a copy of the album in picture disc form, anyway.
Picture discs make odd promotional items, as their sound quality isn’t good enough for airplay. In fact, this one says so right on the cover – “Not intended for normal play.”
About the time this album was released, Epic released the first album as a picture disc, but that one was a commercial release, and is much more common than this one, which was sent only to radio stations. We think this is the better looking of the two picture discs, and collectors seem to agree.
