Description

Offered for sale is a still sealed original U.S. pressing of the only album by Blind Faith, the self-titled Blind Faith, including the U.S.-only alternate cover.

This cover was available for a relatively short time and has never been reissued.

About this copy: This copy of Blind Faith is an original 1969 U.S. copy on the Atco label.

As the album is still sealed, the record is presumably new and unplayed.

The wrap is mostly intact, except for an 8″ (20 cm) split at the bottom edge.  We’ve secured it with tape to prevent further splitting in the wrap.  There is a punch hole in the upper left hand corner.  An original price sticker is attached to the wrap.

A nice copy of a scarce variation of a classic LP.

Background: Blind Faith was billed as a “supergroup,” featuring Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker of Cream, Steve Winwood of Traffic, and Rick Grech from Family.  While the band only produced one album, the self-titled Blind Faith, released in 1969, the album sold well, yielded a successful tour, and remains a popular album today.

The album generated controversy upon release, due to the cover art by photographer Bob Seidemann, which featured a nude 11 year old girl holding what appeared to be an automobile hood ornament.

Most countries released the album with the intended cover art, but in the United States, Atco Records released the album with two different covers – one, catalog number 33-304A, featured the nude girl artwork that was used nearly everywhere, and the second one, 33-304B, featured a photo of the band.

Stores were free to stock whichever cover they preferred, and they overwhelmingly preferred the second cover with the more modest photo of the band.  Due to poor sales of that particular version, Atco deleted the nude cover, and by 1974 or so, they had deleted the album entirely.

RSO Records reissued the album in 1977 with the nude cover intact, and all subsequent reissues of the album, including the late 1980s issue by Mobile Fidelity, have used the nude cover.

AllMusic.com gave Blind Faith a four star review:

Blind Faith’s first and last album, more than 30 years old and counting, remains one of the jewels of the Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood, and Ginger Baker catalogs, despite the crash-and-burn history of the band itself, which scarcely lasted six months. As much a follow-up to Traffic’s self-titled second album as it is to Cream’s final output, it merges the soulful blues of the former with the heavy riffing and outsized song lengths of the latter for a very compelling sound unique to this band.
