Description

Offered for sale is a copy of the 1978 limited edition white vinyl French copy of The Beatles, also known as “The White Album” by the Beatles, complete with all inserts.

About this copy: The record offered for sale is a 1978 French pressing on the Apple label of an album that was originally released in 1968.

The covers on these pressings had “The Beatles” embossed on the front cover, but the covers were not numbered.

This white vinyl pressing was issued with three different stickers – an apple-shaped sticker, a yellow sticker that read “Disque en Couleur,” and a red sticker that says “Special Edition Pressed on Colored Vinyl.”

This is the pressing with an apple-shaped sticker on the front cover that reads “Disques en Pate Blanche” and “Tirage Limite,” indicating that this is a limited edition pressing with white vinyl records.

The cover is M- with a tiny dents in the two right hand corners.  The poster is VG+ with a couple of minor wrinkles, but no rips, tears, or holes.  The photos are VG++; Paul has slight foxing at the bottom edge.  John and Ringo have minor creases at the top left corner.

The two white vinyl records are M- with one or two spindle marks on the labels, but no marks on the vinyl.  Clean discs!

A beautiful copy of a scarce colored vinyl Beatles album.

Background:

The Beatles 1967 LP, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band was wildly influential for both the music and the cover, and they took the opposite approach with their 1968 follow-up, making the cover all white and simply titling the album The Beatles. It quickly became known as The White Album, due to the simple, all-white cover.

In 1978, the White Album was released as a limited edition pressing on white vinyl in several countries, including the U.S., the UK, and France. The French pressings of the White Album are much harder to find than the U.S. version, as few were exported.

Allmusic.com gave The Beatles a 5 star review:

Each song on the sprawling double album The Beatles is an entity to itself, as the band touches on anything and everything it can. This makes for a frustratingly scattershot record or a singularly gripping musical experience, depending on your view, but what makes the so-called White Album interesting is its mess. …None of it sounds like it was meant to share album space together, but somehow The Beatles creates its own style and sound through its mess.
