Offered for sale is a white vinyl copy of the Beatles White Album, released in France in 1978 as a limited edition pressing, complete with four bonus photos and poster.
This pressing is sometimes jokingly called the “Off White” album, as it has a cream-colored cover with a marbled texture.
About this copy: The record offered for sale is a limited edition white vinyl 2 LP pressing of the White Album, issued in France in 1978. The covers on these pressings had “The Beatles” embossed on the front cover, but the covers were not numbered.
This white vinyl pressing was issued with three different stickers – an apple-shaped sticker, a yellow sticker that read “Disque en Couleur,” and a red sticker that says “Special Edition Pressed on Colored Vinyl.”
This is the pressing with an apple-shaped sticker on the front cover that reads “Disques en Pate Blanche” and “Tirage Limite,” indicating that this is a limited edition pressing with white vinyl records.
The cover is VG+, with dent along the spine, a couple of minor corner bends, and trace ring wear.
The four bonus photos are M-. The poster is VG, with a number of wrinkles and significant wear along the folds, but no pin holes or tape.
The records are M- and look unplayed.
A nice, but not perfect, copy of a scarce colored vinyl Beatles album.
The Beatles 1967 LP, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band was wildly influential for both the music and the cover, and they took the opposite approach with their 1968 follow-up, making the cover all white and simply titling the album The Beatles. It quickly became known as The White Album, due to the simple, all-white cover.
In 1978, the White Album was released as a limited edition pressing on white vinyl in several countries, including the U.S., the UK, and France. The French pressings of the White Album are much harder to find than the U.S. version, as few were exported.
Each song on the sprawling double album The Beatles is an entity to itself, as the band touches on anything and everything it can. This makes for a frustratingly scattershot record or a singularly gripping musical experience, depending on your view, but what makes the so-called White Album interesting is its mess. …None of it sounds like it was meant to share album space together, but somehow The Beatles creates its own style and sound through its mess.
