Description

Offered for sale is a still sealed 1960s U.S. stereo pressing of Rubber Soul by the Beatles.

About this copy: This copy of Rubber Soul is a 1960s U.S. pressing on the black “rainbow” Capitol label.

While the exact label variation is unknown, the cover has a small “6” on the back cover, indicating a 1960s pressing from Capitol’s Los Angeles pressing plant.

The inner sleeve is visible at the mouth and appears to be the all-white version.

As the album is still sealed, the record is presumably new and unplayed.

The wrap is fully intact except for two breaks at the mouth – a 2 1/2″ (8 cm) break at the lower right hand corner and a 2 3/4″ (9 cm) break at the center of the mouth.  We have secured these breaks with tape to prevent further splitting in the wrap.

A nice copy of a terrific album that’s hard to find as a sealed early pressing.

Background: Released in December, 1965, Rubber Soul was the seventh Beatles album to be released by Capitol Records.  The U.S. version of the album, which had a different track lineup from the UK version, reached #1 on the U.S. album charts.

Allmusic.com gave Rubber Soul a 5 star review:

While the Beatles still largely stuck to love songs on Rubber Soul, the lyrics represented a quantum leap in terms of thoughtfulness, maturity, and complex ambiguities. Musically, too, it was a substantial leap forward, with intricate folk-rock arrangements that reflected the increasing influence of Dylan and the Byrds. The group and George Martin were also beginning to expand the conventional instrumental parameters of the rock group, using a sitar on “Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown),” Greek-like guitar lines on “Michelle” and “Girl,” fuzz bass on “Think for Yourself,” and a piano made to sound like a harpsichord on the instrumental break of “In My Life.”
