Offered for sale is a rare Japanese red vinyl first pressing of Revolver by the Beatles, complete with the original obi.
About this copy: This copy of Revolver is an original 1966 Japanese first pressing, pressed on “Everclean” red vinyl and including the original obi, lyric insert, and inner sleeve.
This version is the same as the UK version of the album, with 14 tracks.
The cover is VG++, with trace wear at the corners. This is a thick cover, unlike most 1960s Japanese covers, which were pressed from ultra-thin posterboard.
The rare original obi is VG, with some creases and some foxing on the back. The “hojyuhyo,” or reorder tag, is missing.
Lyric insert is VG++, with a couple of faint wrinkles. The original envelope-style inner sleeve is VG+, with a few wrinkles, but no tears.
The red vinyl disc is VG++, and close to M-. There are a few very faint sleeve scuffs and a few spindle marks. This LP hasn’t had a lot of play and has clearly been well cared for.
A beautiful copy of a terrific record and one that almost never turns up with an original obi and the only complete copy we’ve ever seen.
Background: Revolver, released in August, 1966, was the seventh studio album by the Beatles. The album reached #1 in the U.S. and UK and has never gone out of print.
All the rules fell by the wayside with Revolver, as the Beatles began exploring new sonic territory, lyrical subjects, and styles of composition. … The biggest miracle of Revolver may be that the Beatles covered so much new stylistic ground and executed it perfectly on one record, or it may be that all of it holds together perfectly. Either way, its daring sonic adventures and consistently stunning songcraft set the standard for what pop/rock could achieve. Even after Sgt. Pepper, Revolver stands as the ultimate modern pop album and it’s still as emulated as it was upon its original release.
