Offered for sale is a still sealed U.S. stereo copy of Meet the Beatles by the Beatles with a promotional punch hole in the cover.
This copy has a number 9 on the back cover, indicating it is a 1969/1970 pressing from Capitol’s Jacksonville, Illinois pressing plant.
About this copy: This copy of Meet the Beatles is a U.S. pressing on the Capitol label, released in about 1970.
As the album is still sealed, the record is presumably new and unplayed.
The wrap is fully intact except for a couple of small tears at the top edge and one near the bottom left of the front cover.
There is a clean punch hole in the upper left hand corner of the cover, indicating that this copy was intended for promotional use.
The label variation is unknown, but most copies of this album with the number 9 on the back cover have green Capitol labels. A few have been found with black Capitol labels with the “A subsidiary of Capitol Industries, Inc.” on the label.
The record feels somewhat thin, so it’s likely a green label pressing. (see photo for example)
A nice copy of a scarce early Beatles LP.
Background: Released in January 1964, Meet the Beatles was the first album by the Beatles to be released by Capitol Records, and their second album overall.
The album reached #1 on the U.S. album charts.
Meet the Beatles! …was indeed the LP where many millions of Americans were introduced to the Fab Four. As an introduction, there could hardly have been one better. Largely comprised of material released on their second U.K. LP, With the Beatles — the album art offers a blue-tinted spin on that late-1963 release — Meet the Beatles! contains nine of that album’s 14 songs, cutting out almost all the covers … as the years have passed, the emphasis on joyous, exuberant rock & roll means that Meet the Beatles! still sounds fresh and exciting on its own terms.
