Offered for sale is a 1970 Japanese black vinyl mono pressing of Meet the Beatles, with the lyric insert and an alternate track listing from the U.S. release.
About this copy: This copy of Meet the Beatles is a Japanese mono pressing on the Apple label. This is the fourth version of the album, issued in early 1970.
The cover is VG++, with traces of wear at the corners. The lyric insert is included. The obi and black paper inner sleeve are missing.
The disc is black vinyl and is in VG condition. Side one has a few light marks and a noticeable scratch through tracks 2 and 3. There are a few light marks on side 2. The record still has lots of shine and doesn’t appear to have been played very often.
A nice play copy of a seldom-seen variation on Meet the Beatles.
Background: The Beatles were immensely popular in Japan, and over the years, their Japanese record label released all of the U.S. Capitol Albums, all of the UK versions of the band’s work and a number of Japan-only releases.
Meet the Beatles is one of those Japan-only titles. While the album shares a title with the band’s first American album for Capitol, the track listing is completely different. Unlike most Japanese Beatles releases, this version of the title was issued only in mono with a standard cover.
Adding to the confusion is the fact that a version that was identical to the U.S. version was also released in Japan, and that one was released in stereo with a gatefold cover.
