Description

Offered for sale is a red vinyl “promotional” U.S. 12″ single by the Beatles, featuring two songs sung in German – “Sie Liebt Dich,” and “Komm, Gib Mir Deine Hand.” (“She Loves You” and “I Want to Hold Your Hand.”)

About this copy: This is a 1978 12″ U.S. pressing  on the Capitol label, containing “Sie Liebt Dich” on one side and “Komm, Gib Mir Deine Hand” on the other.

The labels read “DEMONSTRATION – NOT FOR SALE.” “Mastered by Capitol” is faintly visible in the dead wax area.

The disc is M-, with no marks on the vinyl.  There’s a single spindle mark on the labels, so the record has likely only been played once or twice.  Clean disc!

This disc was issued in a generic white cover.  The cover is VG+ with some discoloration from age, but no tears, wear, or splits.

A nice copy of a fascinating Beatles item.

Background: We’ve put the word “promotional” in quotes in the title because while this item appears at a glance to be a legitimate Beatles promotional item, its manufacture was not authorized by Capitol Records.

In all likelihood, these discs were discreetly pressed by a Capitol employee for their own use.

This odd 12″ single appeared on the market in 1978, and at that time it was offered to collectors as a “promo-only” item, and all copies were pressed on colored vinyl (most were either red or clear, though we’ve seen one or two with an orange/clear mix, a couple of pink ones, and one, and only one, that was black.)

The provenance of this item is unusual; the labels appear to be legitimate Capitol labels but the label is an odd black variation that mentions Paul McCartney’s company MPL Communications at the bottom, and this version of the Capitol label was only used for McCartney titles and never for Beatles records.

The labels say “Demonstration – Not for Sale,” and the record was widely represented by sellers at the time of release as a legitimate promotional item.

Still, it’s an interesting Beatles artifact, and the only time these two German-language songs (German versions of “She Loves You” and “I Want to Hold Your Hand” have appeared together on a single.
