Offered for sale is a clear vinyl 12″ single by the Beatles, featuring two songs sung in German – “Sie Liebt Dich,” and “Komm, Gib Mir Deine Hand.”
We’ve put the word “promo” in quotes in the title because while this item appears to be a legitimate Beatles promotional item, their manufacture was actually not authorized by Capitol Records.
This odd 12″ single appeared on the market in 1978, and was offered to collectors as a “promo-only” item, and all copies were pressed on colored vinyl (most were either red or clear.)
The provenance of this item is unusual; the labels appear to be legitimate Capitol labels but the label is an odd black label that mentions Paul McCartney’s company MPL Communications at the bottom, and this version of the Capitol label was never officially used for any Beatles releases.. The labels say “Demonstration – Not for Sale,” and the record was widely presented by sellers at the time as a legitimate promotional item.
In all likelihood, these discs were pressed by a Capitol employee for their own use, and were not authorized by Capitol.
Still, it’s an interesting Beatles artifact, and the only time these two German-language songs (German versions of “She Loves You” and “I Want to Hold Your Hand” have appeared together on a single.
About this copy: This is a 12″ Beatles single, pressed on clear vinyl, containing “Sie Liebt Dich” on one side and “Komm, Gib Mir Deine Hand” on the other.
If the photo looks a bit odd, it’s because we placed the clear vinyl disc against a black background when taking the photo. The disc is clear vinyl.
In our experience, the clear vinyl copies are harder to find than the red ones.
The disc is M- and may be unplayed. “Mastered by Capitol” is faintly visible in the dead wax area.
This disc was issued in a generic die-cut cover.
A nice copy of a fascinating Beatles album.
