Offered for sale is a red vinyl Japanese pressing of Help! by the Beatles, including a Japan-only gatefold cover and the original obi.
The content on this album is the same as that of the UK release.
About this copy: This copy of Help! is a 1969 pressing on the Apple label of an album that was originally released on the Odeon label in 1965. The album was pressed on “Everclean” red vinyl.
This version of the album did not include the bonus photo that came with the 1965 pressing.
The cover is VG+, with faint general wear and a fair amount of foxing on the inside. The obi is VG+, with some foxing, a fold on the attached “hojyuhyo,” or reorder tag, and a number (4718) written on the reorder tag in ballpoint pen.
The original black inner sleeve is included. It has a small 1/2″ tear on one side. The lyric insert is VG+, with some foxing, but no tears or writing.
The red vinyl disc is VG++ and close to M-, with a couple of faint scuffs and a number of spindle marks on the labels. While the album has received quite a bit of play, it’s been well cared for.
A nice copy of a terrific album that is hard to find complete.
Background: Released in 1965, Help! was the fifth UK album release by the Beatles. Released in different configurations in the UK and the U.S., both versions reached #1 on their respective album charts.
Considering that Help! functions as the Beatles’ fifth album and as the soundtrack to their second film — while filming, they continued to release non-LP singles on a regular basis — it’s not entirely surprising that it still has some of the weariness of Beatles for Sale. Again, they pad the album with covers, but the Bakersfield bounce of “Act Naturally” adds new flavor (along with an ideal showcase for Ringo’s amiable vocals) and “Dizzy Miss Lizzy” gives John an opportunity to flex his rock & roll muscle. George is writing again and if his two contributions don’t touch Lennon and McCartney’s originals, they hold their own against much of their British pop peers.
