Description
Offered for sale is a U.S. stereo pressing of Ain’t She Sweet by the Beatles.
This is the rare 1969 “white border”pressing that was immediately deleted upon release.
About this copy: This copy of Ain’t She Sweet is a 1969 U.S. pressing on the yellow Atco label of an album that was originally released in 1964.
The cover is M-. There is a saw mark at the upper left hand corner; all copies of this 1969 issue have this.
The original inner sleeve is M- with no splits.
The disc is M- on side one and VG++ and close to M- on side two with a small inaudible scratch through “I’ll Keep You Satisfied.”
A beautiful copy of a very rare Beatles LP.
Background: Released in 1964, Ain’t She Sweet was a compilation album on Atco records that combined four songs by the Beatles (with Tony Sheridan) and eight songs by a band called the Swallows.
The cover art gives the impression that it’s entirely a Beatles album, though they only play on four tracks.
The 1964 release was issued in mono and stereo on the then-current “two color” Atco labels.
In 1969, the album was briefly reissued on the then-new yellow Atco label, in stereo only. All copies of the 1969 issue have a white border around the cover, and all copies have a saw mark in the cover.
This suggests that the album was actually deleted upon release, as though the record company simply decided not to release it at all. The album was briefly available in discount bins and was not reissued, making it one of the rarer U.S. Beatles albums.
Allmusic.com gave Ain’t She Sweet this review:
In May 1961, the Beatles were hired as the backup band for singer Tony Sheridan, resulting in the recording of eight tracks, six of which featured Sheridan on vocals, one of which was an instrumental written by John Lennon and George Harrison, and one of which, “Ain’t She Sweet,” featured a lead vocal by Lennon. Some of these recordings were released on singles in 1961, but they began to turn up on albums only after the Beatles became famous. This was the second one to appear in the U.S., and it was even more of a ripoff than most. It contained only four of the recordings, plus eight unrelated tracks by the Swallows, whoever they were.
