Offered for sale is a still sealed limited edition green vinyl pressing of Abbey Road by the Beatles, issued in the UK in 1978 for export to the United States.
About this copy: This copy of Abbey Road is a still sealed green vinyl UK LP, issued for export in 1978.
This is the original 1978 issue and not one of the newer unauthorized green vinyl pressings that have been seen on the market recently.
As the album is still sealed, the record is presumably new and unplayed. The cover has a hype sticker that says “Coloured Vinyl – Includes Extra Charge £.”
The wrap is mostly intact, though there is a 7″ break in the wrap at the mouth of the cover that has been secured with tape to prevent further splitting. There is a 3″ tear in the wrap on the front just below the “Coloured Vinyl” hype sticker.
A nice copy of an album that’s surprisingly hard to find these days and the first sealed copy we’ve seen in decades.
Background: In the late 1970s, collectors were showing a lot of interest in both picture discs and colored vinyl, so record companies worldwide released a number of their popular titles, both old and new, in these formats as limited edition items.
In the UK, four titles by the Beatles were pressed on colored vinyl for export to the United States – Magical Mystery Tour, Let It Be, the White Album, and Abbey Road. These titles were all available only for a limited time before being deleted, and all four are somewhat hard to find today.
