Offered for sale is an original red vinyl Japanese pressing of Abbey Road by the Beatles, including the original obi.
About this copy: This copy of Abbey Road is a 1969 Japanese pressing on the Apple label, pressed on “Everclean” red vinyl and including the nearly-always-missing original die-cut “medallion” obi.
The cover is VG++, with slight edge and corner wear.
The original obi is VG++, with slight foxing. There are no tears. The “hojyuhyo”, or reorder tag is still attached.
The original black inner sleeve is M- with no splits. The lyric insert is VG+ with slight foxing, but no tears.
The red vinyl disc is VG++ with a few spindle marks on the labels and a couple of light scuffs on side one. Side two has a light inaudible mark through the second track. It’s a clean disc that has been well cared for.
A nice copy of an album that’s hard to find complete.
Background: There’s not much to say about Abbey Road that hasn’t already been said; the album reached #1 on the album charts in 7 different countries, and has sold more than 12 million copies in the U.S. alone.
As with every other album by the Beatles that was released in Japan in the 1960s, original pressings of Abbey Road were pressed on red “Everclean” vinyl, a compound that was created with hopes that the vinyl would be less prone to static electricity than the standard black vinyl of the day.
Some Beatles LPs were issued multiple times on red vinyl in Japan; A Hard Day’s Night, for instance, was released four times in the 1960s on red vinyl, and each pressing had a different obi on the cover.
Abbey Road, on the other hand, was only pressed on red vinyl one time, for the original release and those copies were only available for a few months before the record company changed the pressings to black vinyl.
