Offered for sale is a copy of the rare 1968 Japan-only compilation LP My Funny Valentine (Selected History of Popular Vocal, Vol. 5) by Barbra Streisand, including the original obi.
This LP features an unusual die-cut gatefold cover, framing the photo of Ms. Streisand on the front and inside cover. While it looks like it should be, the photo is not removable from the cover.
About this copy: This copy of My Funny Valentine is an original 1968 Japanese issue on the CBS label, including the nearly-always-missing original obi.
The cover is VG++ and very close to M-, with trace edge wear. The obi is M-, with a tiny (1/8″ or so) tear at the bottom edge. The “hojyuhyo,” or reorder tag, is still attached.
This LP was issued without an insert, as it has a gatefold cover with a four page lyric/liner note booklet that includes lyrics in both English and Japanese.
The heavy (160gram) disc is M- and may be unplayed. Beautiful disc!
A gorgeous copy of a very rare Barbra Streisand LP and the only complete copy we’ve ever seen.
Background: As most Japanese record buyers do not speak or understand English, they tend to prefer hits compilations rather than to purchase regular studio albums by English-language artists.
As a result, Japanese record companies have often prepared special compilation LPs especially for the Japanese market, and many of them are quite rare today.
One of these is My Funny Valentine by Barbra Streisand. The full title is My Funny Valentine (Selected History of Popular Vocal, Vol. 5) as that album was part of a popular vocal series, though the other albums in the series were by other artists.
The LP was issued in 1968 only in Japan, and as far as we know, was never reissued there.
