Offered for sale is a scarce promo-only pressing of the 1988 LP Giving You the Best That I Got by Anita Baker, pressed on high-quality audiophile vinyl.
About this copy: This copy of Giving You the Best That I Got is a white label promotional copy pressed on “high quality audiophile vinyl” as indicated by a hype sticker on the cover.
The cover is M- and still retains the original shrink wrap. In addition to the sticker indicating audiophile vinyl, there is a second hype sticker that lists three of the songs that appear on the album. There is a saw mark in the cover; all promotional copies have this.
The record is M- and appears to have had little play. The lyric inner sleeve is included.
A nice copy of a terrific album.
Background: Giving You the Best That I Got was Anita Baker’s third album, and the album reached #1 on the U.S. album charts, as did the title track, which was the album’s lead single.
The album was certified triple platinum by the RIAA for sales of more than 3 million copies.
For a short time in the mid-to-late 1980s, a few record companies, notably Elektra and Warner Brothers, began pressing promotional copies of some of their albums on high-quality vinyl, strictly for radio station use.
Some of the records indicated that the vinyl was “Quiex II” vinyl and others simply said “audiophile vinyl.” Regardless; records with either distinction sounded quite a bit better than the copies sold in record stores.
