Offered for sale is a rare mono pressing of the UK release of the 1969 LP, Journey to the Center of the Mind by the Amboy Dukes, featuring Ted Nugent on guitar.
About this copy: The copy offered for sale is one of those UK mono copies. The covers of the stereo and mono copies were identical; you could identify which was which by looking through a small hole in the back cover. If the inner sleeve was blue, you’d see a blue dot through the hole, indicating stereo. This mono copy has a red-bordered inner sleeve, which shows as a red dot on the back cover.
The disc is exceptionally clean; it’s VG++ with just a couple of tiny marks from being removed from the inner sleeve. The cover is VG+ with a bit of wear at the corners and some slight ring wear on the back. Unfortunately, both labels and the back cover have writing on them. Otherwise, it’s a very clean copy of a hard to find pressing. The original red inner sleeve is included.
Background: The Amboy Dukes (billed as The American Amboy Dukes on this album to avoid confusion with a UK band of the same name) are best remembered for two things: Their 1969 hit of the title track, Journey to the Center of the Mind, which reached #16 on the U.S. pop charts, and the introduction of guitarist Ted Nugent to the world. This album, their second, was one of their better efforts. While it was released commercially in stereo only in the U.S., it was released in both mono and stereo in the UK, with the stereo copies outnumbering the mono copies by a considerable margin, perhaps 10-1.
