Offered for sale is an original Japanese pressing of Orange by Al Stewart, including the original “cap” obi.
About this copy: This copy of Orange is a 1972 Japanese pressing on the Epic label.
The cover is M- and is still in the original shrink wrap. This copy is unusual in that it has a gatefold cover, but is still in the original shrink wrap. The cover has never been opened!
The nearly-always-missing “cap” obi is M-. The 24 page booklet is M-.
The disc is VG++ and close to M-. Side one has an inaudible hairline that runs across most of the side. Side two has a couple of very faint scuffs. There are no spindle marks on the labels; the record has likely only been played once or twice.
A nice copy of a very rare (and very good) Al Stewart LP and the only complete copy we’ve ever seen.
Background: Released in 1972 in the UK and Japan (but not in the U.S.,) Orange was the fourth album by Al Stewart.

This is a transitional Al Stewart album. After stretching the boundaries of song length and language with Love Chronicles, he was in a something of a holding pattern on Orange, without any obviously profound inspiration or moments of daring. “Songs Out of Clay,” however, does reveal the first signs of the mix of acoustic and electric guitar sounds that he would perfect on his next album, Past, Present and Future, two years later, while “The Fourth of May,” a six-minute personal story-song, gets something of the beat and the sound that Stewart would refine in achieving his subsequent success — he just needed subject matter other than busted relationships.
