A stereo copy of Al Casey’s Surfin’ Hootenanny LP, pressed on blue/green “surf colored” vinyl

Offered for sale is a stereo pressing of Al Casey’s 1963 LP, Surfin’ Hootenanny, pressed on blue/green “surf colored” vinyl.

About this copy: The copy offered for sale is a stereo pressing on Stacy, and pressed on blue-green (mostly green) vinyl.

We think this is a second issue, as the cover is printed on posterboard (rather than constructed from a paper slick glued to cardboard) and does not have the address of Stacy Records on the label.  It is not, however, a recent reissue, such as those issued not too long ago by Sundazed.

The cover is VG+, with a bit of wear on the corners.  The record is a beautiful VG++, with just a few slight marks and a couple of sleeve scuffs and has clearly had very little play. The back cover features a “Surfin’ Hootenanny” board game!

A nice copy of an album that is rightly regarded as a surf classic.

Background: Al Casey isn’t exactly a household name, but as a member of the famed Wrecking Crew of studio musicians, he played on hundreds of records over the years.  This album, Surfin’ Hootenanny, was reportedly recorded in a span of six hours in early 1963, with Lee Hazelwood producing.

The title track was a minor hit, and featured backing vocals by the “K-C-Ettes”, who were actually an uncredited Darlene Love and the Blossoms.  They also sang on one other track on the LP.

The album was originally issued in both mono and stereo on the small, Chicago-based Stacy Records and early copies were pressed on blue/green “surf colored vinyl.”

In his review at, Cub Koda declared Surfin’ Hootenanny to be “one of the world’s greatest surf albums.”
