The album was released with six different covers, labeled on the spine with the letters A-F.

The album reached #1 on both the U.S. and UK album charts.

Allmusic.com gave In Through the Out Door a 3 1/2 star review:

Led Zeppelin decided to push into new sonic territory on their eighth album, In Through the Out Door. A good deal of this aural adventurism derived from internal tensions within the band. Jimmy Page and John Bonham were in the throes of their own addictions, leaving Plant and John Paul Jones alone in the studio to play with the bassist’s new keyboard during the day. Jones wound up with writing credits on all but one of the seven songs — the exception is “Hot Dog,” a delightfully dirty rockabilly throwaway — and he and Plant are wholly responsible for the cloistered, grooving “South Bound Saurez” and “All My Love,” a synth-slathered ballad unlike anything in Zeppelin’s catalog due not only to its keyboards but its vulnerability.

Allmusic.com gave The Song Remains the Same a 3 star review:

…It was the kind of excess that creates either myth or madness, and this 1976 live album — comprised of highlights from their three shows at Madison Square Garden during July 1973 — has its fair share of both, as Zeppelin sounds both magnificent and murky as they blow up songs from their first five albums to a ridiculously grand scale. …This, more than any of their studio albums, captures both the grandiosity and entitlement that earned the band scorn among certain quarters of rock critics and punk rockers in the mid-’70s, which makes it a valuable historical document in an odd way, as the studio records are such magnificent constructions and the archival live albums so powerful.

This is the same LP as the U.S. release Unleashed in the East, though the U.S. release did not include the bonus EP.

About this copy: This copy of Priest in the East is a  1979 pressing on the Epic label.  This is the first issue that does not list “The Ripper” as the fourth track on side one.

The cover is VG++ with slight corner and edge wear.  The obi is M-.

The lyric insert is VG+ with some discoloration from age.  The plain cardboard insert to hold the bonus 7″ is included.

The disc is VG+ with a few light scuffs and a number of spindle marks on the labels.  It’s a clean disc, but one that has been played fairly often.  It plays well with slight surface noise between tracks.

The bonus 7″ single is VG+ with a few light scuffs and a number of spindle marks on the labels.

A nice copy of an album that has become quite hard to find as a first pressing.

Background: Released in 1979, Priest in the East (Released as Unleashed in the East outside of Japan) was the first live album by Judas Priest.

The album reached #10 on the UK charts and #70 in the U.S., where it was later certified Platinum.

In Japan, the album was titled Priest in the East and included a bonus 4-track EP containing the following songs:

  • Rock Forever
  • Delivering the Goods
  • Hell Bent for Leather
  • Starbreaker

Allmusic.com gave Priest in the East a 4 star review:

Judas Priest’s first official live recording has always been met with equal amounts of acclaim and controversy: acclaim from those who consider it an excellent summation of the metal legend’s 1970s output, and controversy from the critics and industry insiders who criticized what they believed to be a heavily overdubbed and studio-enhanced performance, mockingly naming it Unleashed in the Studio at times. Before delving deeper into this issue, let it be said that except for a few unfortunate omissions (“Hell Bent for Leather,” “Better by You, Better Than Me”) the track listing here is quite impressive. Along with powerful versions of such storming anthems as “Exciter” and “Running Wild,” the band delivers the definitive version of the prog metallic “Sinner,” and competent versions of their popular covers tunes, “Diamonds and Rust” and “The Green Manalishi (With the Two-Pronged Crown).”

The album reached #1 on both the UK and U.S. charts and has sold more than eleven million copies.

Allmusic.com gave Houses of the Holy a 5 star review:

Houses of the Holy follows the same basic pattern as Led Zeppelin IV, but the approach is looser and more relaxed. Jimmy Page’s riffs rely on ringing, folky hooks as much as they do on thundering blues-rock, giving the album a lighter, more open atmosphere. …Throughout the record, the band’s playing is excellent, making the eclecticism of Page and Robert Plant’s songwriting sound coherent and natural.

Led Zeppelin – Led Zeppelin II Japan LP with poster and obi

led zeppelin II japan lp

Offered for sale is an early Japanese pressing of Led Zeppelin II by Led Zeppelin, including the original obi and the Japan-only poster.

About this copy: This copy of Led Zeppelin II is a 1976 Japanese pressing on the Atlantic label of an album that was originally released in 1969.

The cover is VG++ with slight wear on the spine.  The obi is M-.  The lyric insert is M-.  The poster is M- with no rips, tears, or holes.

The disc is M- with a few spindle marks on the labels, but no marks on the vinyl.  Clean disc!

A nice copy of a classic Led Zeppelin LP.

Background: Led Zeppelin’s 1969 debut LP drew a bit of attention from fans and critics, but it was the second album, Led Zeppelin II, that really made the band famous.  Every track on the album got regular play on FM radio and the album reached #1 on both the U.S. and UK charts and the song “Whole Lotta Love” reached #4 on the American singles chart.

Allmusic.com gave Led Zeppelin II a rare 5 star review:

Recorded quickly during Led Zeppelin’s first American tours, Led Zeppelin II provided the blueprint for all the heavy metal bands that followed it. Since the group could only enter the studio for brief amounts of time, most of the songs that compose II are reworked blues and rock & roll standards that the band was performing on-stage at the time. Not only did the short amount of time result in a lack of original material, it made the sound more direct. Jimmy Page still provided layers of guitar overdubs, but the overall sound of the album is heavy and hard, brutal and direct. “Whole Lotta Love,” “The Lemon Song,” and “Bring It on Home” are all based on classic blues songs — only, the riffs are simpler and louder and each song has an extended section for instrumental solos. Of the remaining six songs, two sport light acoustic touches (“Thank You,” “Ramble On”), but the other four are straight-ahead heavy rock that follows the formula of the revamped blues songs. While Led Zeppelin II doesn’t have the eclecticism of the group’s debut, it’s arguably more influential. After all, nearly every one of the hundreds of Zeppelin imitators used this record, with its lack of dynamics and its pummeling riffs, as a blueprint.

Led Zeppelin – Physical Graffiti Japan 2 LP set with obi

led zeppelin physical graffiti japan lp

Offered for sale is a Japanese pressing of the double album Physical Graffiti by Led Zeppelin, including the original obi.

About this copy: This copy of Physical Graffiti is a 1979 pressing on the Swan Song label of an album that was originally released in 1975.  This was part of a limited edition release that celebrated ten years since the release of the first Led Zeppelin LP.

The cover is  M- with trace wear at the top edge.  The obi is M-.

The two custom inner sleeves are M-.  The lyric insert is M-.  The foldout title insert is M-.

The two discs are M- with a few spindle marks on the labels, but no marks on the vinyl.  Clean discs!

A nice copy of an album that’s quite hard to find in good condition.

Background: Released in 1975, Physical Graffiti was Led Zeppelin’s sixth studio album, their first double album and what was then their first new release in two years.

The album reached #1 in both the U.S. and the UK and has sold more than sixteen million copies to date.

Allmusic.com gave Physical Graffiti a 5 star review:

Led Zeppelin returned from a nearly two-year hiatus in 1975 with the double-album Physical Graffiti, their most sprawling and ambitious work. Where Led Zeppelin IV and Houses of the Holy integrated influences on each song, the majority of the tracks on Physical Graffiti are individual stylistic workouts. The highlights are when Zeppelin incorporate influences and stretch out into new stylistic territory, most notably on the tense, Eastern-influenced “Kashmir.” “Trampled Underfoot,” with John Paul Jones’ galloping keyboard, is their best funk-metal workout, while “Houses of the Holy” is their best attempt at pop, and “Down by the Seaside” is the closest they’ve come to country. …It takes a while to sort out all of the music on the album, but Physical Graffiti captures the whole experience of Led Zeppelin at the top of their game better than any of their other albums.

Allmusic.com gave Cry Like a Rainstorm, Howl Like the Wind  this review:

On the strength of the hit duet with Aaron Neville, “Don’t Know Much,” Cry Like a Rainstorm — Howl Like the Wind returned Linda Ronstadt to the top of the charts. The album was a collection of well-constructed adult contemporary pop, which suits her voice better than the traditional pop she recorded during the mid-’80s.

Linda Ronsadt – Mad Love 1980 Japan LP with obi

linda ronstadt mad love japan lp

Offered for sale is an original Japanese pressing of Mad Love by Linda Ronstadt, including the original obi.

About this copy: This copy of Mad Love is a 1980 Japanese pressing on the Asylum label.

The cover is VG+ with slight edge and corner wear.  The obi is M-.  The insert is M-.

The disc is M- with a number of spindle marks on the labels, but no marks on the vinyl.  Clean disc!

A nice copy of a scarce Linda Ronstadt LP.

Background: Released in 1980, Mad Love was the tenth album by Linda Ronstadt.

The album reached #3 on the U.S. album chart and #65 on the UK chart.

Allmusic.com gave Mad Love a 3 star review:

Released in 1980, Mad Love featured Linda Ronstadt taking on new wave with mixed results. At this point, her albums with producer Peter Asher became routine and repetitive. This album’s predecessor, Living in the U.S.A., hit the cutout bins, so a change was in order. While many may miss the customary Ronstadt here, most of Mad Love does indeed work…. For the most part, Mad Love stood the test of time and is certainly different from the Ronstadt albums that preceded and followed it.

Frida (Abba) – Something’s Going On sealed 1982 Japan promotional LP

frida something's going on japan promo lp

Offered for sale is a still sealed original Japanese promotional copy of Something’s Going On by Frida.

About this copy: This copy of Something’s Going On is a 1982 Japanese pressing on the Discomate label.

As the album is still sealed, the record is presumably new and unplayed.

The wrap is fully intact with no rips, tears, or holes.  The cover is M-.

This LP was issued without an obi, but instead had a large sticker attached to the shrink wrap.  There is a smaller sticker at the top of the cover that says “Sample” in Japanese.

The disc should be a white label promotional copy. (see photo for example)

A beautiful copy of an album that’s hard to find complete, as the sticker is usually missing.

Background: Released in 1982, Something’s Going On was the third solo album by Annifrid Lyngstad, better known as “Frida,” and former member of ABBA.

This was her first English-language LP.  The album reached #18 on the UK album chart and #41 on the U.S. chart.

Allmusic.com gave Something’s Going On a 4 star review:

Fans of ABBA’s sugary-sweet pop songs will no doubt be surprised by Something’s Going On, the remarkably hard-edged 1982 solo album by ABBA vocalist Anni-Frida Lyngstad, better known simply as Frida. …Something’s Going On boasts impressive guitar work by Daryl Stuermer, who has toured with Genesis as well as appeared on several Collins solo albums. Collins’ drum work is also outstanding, particularly on the hard-hitting hit single “I Know There’s Something Going On.” Frida herself shows an unexpected emotional range given ABBA’s two-dimensional pop gloss. … Frida escapes the creative limitations of being a member of one of the world’s most popular groups on this solid and often riveting album.

Quicksilver Messenger Service – Happy Trails

quicksilver messenger service happy trails japan lp

Offered for sale is a Japanese pressing of Happy Trails by Quicksilver Messenger Service, including the original obi.

About this copy: This copy of Happy Trails is a 1976 Japanese pressing on the orange Capitol label of an album that was originally released in 1969.

The cover is VG+, with slight edge wear and quite a bit of foxing on the back.  The obi is M-.

The insert is VG+ with a small tear near the middle.

The disc is M- with a few spindle marks and slight foxing on the label, but no marks on the vinyl.  Clean disc!

A nice copy of a scarce (and very good) Quicksilver LP.

Background: Released in 1969, the live album Happy Trails was the second album by the Quicksilver Messenger Service.

The album reached #27 on the U.S. album charts.

Allmusic.com gave Happy Trails a 5 star review:

Without question, this follow-up to Quicksilver Messenger Service’s self-titled debut release is the most accurate in portraying the band on vinyl in the same light as the group’s critically and enthusiastically acclaimed live performances…. The perpetually inventive chops of QMS are what is truly on display here. The musicians’ unmitigated instrumental prowess and practically psychic interaction allow them to seamlessly weave into and back out of the main theme. Yet all the while, each player takes center stage for uncompromising solos. …The brief title track, a cover of Roy Rogers and Dale Evans’ “Happy Trails,” seems almost insignificant in the wake of such virtuoso playing. It clears the sonic palette and also bids adieu to this particular fab foursome of psychedelia.
