Pink Floyd – More 1970 red vinyl Japan LP with obi

Pink Floyd - More 1970 red vinyl Japan LP

Offered for sale is a Japanese red vinyl pressing of More, the third album by Pink Floyd, including the original obi.

About this copy:  This copy of More is a 1970 Japanese pressing on the Odeon label of an album that was originally released in 1969.

This copy was pressed on “Everclean” red vinyl and includes a gatefold cover that was not included on the original 1969 issue.

The cover is VG+ with trace corner and edge wear and a “dent” at the mouth fo the cover.  The obi is VG+ with a few minor wrinkles, but no tears.  The “hojyuhyo” (reorder tag) is still attached.

This LP was issued without an insert.

The red vinyl disc is M- with a few spindle marks on the labels, but no marks on the vinyl.  Clean disc!

A beautiful copy of a terrific record.

Background: Released in 1969, More was the third album by Pink Floyd and the first without founder Syd Barrett.

The album reached #153 on the U.S. album charts.

Allmusic.com gave More a 3 star review:

Commissioned as a soundtrack to the seldom-seen French hippie movie of the same name, More was a Pink Floyd album in its own right, reaching the Top Ten in Britain… Several of the tracks are pleasantly inconsequential, but this record does include some strong compositions, especially “Cymbaline,” “Green Is the Colour,” and “The Nile Song.” All of these developed into stronger pieces in live performances, and better, high-quality versions are available on numerous bootlegs.

You can listen to “Green is the Colour” here:

As with most albums in Japan, More was released multiple times, with multiple catalog numbers, multiple obis, and on both black and red vinyl.  The first issue was pressed on red vinyl and had a single pocket cover and a now-impossibly-hard-to-find “New Rock” obi; the second issue had a gatefold cover and was pressed on both red and black vinyl with a black obi with orange print.  Later issues were pressed on black vinyl only and had an obi that was unique to that particular reissue.

The first issue is extraordinarily rare and rarely turns up for sale.  The second issue, which came out the same year as the first one, was more successful in the Japanese market, but has become much harder to find in recent years, especially in good condition.

The insert is VG++ with a couple of minor wrinkles.

The red vinyl disc is VG++ with a couple of very faint sleeve scuffs.  It’s very close to M-.  There are a few spindle marks on the labels.  Clean disc!

A hard to find pressing of a great album by an iconic band.

Background: Released in 1968, A Saucerful of Secrets was the second album by Pink Floyd, the first to include guitarist/singer David Gilmour, and the last to include founder/guitarist/singer Syd Barrett.

The album reached #9 on the UK charts but only reached #158 on the U.S. charts.

Allmusic.com gave A Saucerful of Secrets a 3 1/2 star review:

A transitional album on which the band moved from Syd Barrett’s relatively concise and vivid songs to spacy, ethereal material with lengthy instrumental passages. Barrett’s influence is still felt (he actually did manage to contribute one track, the jovial “Jugband Blues”), and much of the material retains a gentle, fairy-tale ambience.

Pink Floyd (Kate Bush) Harvest Sampler 1978 promo-only U.S. LP with rare Pink Floyd track

pink floyd - harvest sampler u.s. promo lp

Offered for sale is a copy of  Harvest Sampler, a U.S. LP issued only for promotional use.

This LP includes “Point Me at the Sky” by Pink Floyd, which has not appeared on any other U.S. LP and “The Man With a Child in His Eyes” by Kate Bush.

About this copy: The cover is M-.  The disc is M- and may be unplayed.  Clean disc!

A beautiful copy of a rare promotional sampler.

Background: Harvest Records was a relatively short-lived label, created as a spinoff of EMI in Britain with the intention of showcasing progressive rock artists.  The label wasn’t overly successful, aside from Pink Floyd, so in 1978, the label released a promo-only LP called Harvest Sampler to radio stations in the U.S. in order to inspire airplay and (hopefully) increase sales.

While the album included primarily album tracks by then-current artists on the label, the LP also included a rare track, “Point Me at the Sky,” by Pink Floyd, who at that time were no longer with the label.

“Point Me at the Sky” was the band’s fifth single in the UK, where it did not chart.  The song was not released as a single in the U.S.

Not only was “Point Me at the Sky” not released as a single in the United States, it has never been included on any commercially released album in LP form in the U.S., either.  This album is the only American vinyl release to include the song.

The version of the song on Harvest Sampler is a rechanneled stereo version created from the original mono mix.

In addition to the Pink Floyd, track, the album is also of note to Kate Bush collectors, as it includes “The Man With a Child in His Eyes” from her then-new Kick Inside album.

Tracks listing:

  • Little River Band – Changed and Different
  • Tom Robinson Band – 2-4-6-8 Motorway
  • King Harry – Fighting Talk
  • Wire – Ex-Lion Tamer
  • Pink Floyd – Point Me at the Sky
  • Be-Bop Deluxe – Panic in the World
  • Strapps – Child of the City
  • Focus – Wingless

Nick Mason (Pink Floyd) – Nick Mason’s Fictitious Sports U.S. promo LP

Nick Mason's Fictitious Sports U.S. promo LP

Offered for sale is an original U.S. promotional copy of Nick Mason’s Fictitious Sports by Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason.

About this copy: This copy of Nick Mason’s Fictitious Sports is a 1981 U.S. pressing on the Columbia label.

The cover is M- and still has the original shrink wrap.  There is a promotional stamp on the back cover.

The custom inner sleeve is M- with no splits.  The disc is M- and looks unplayed.  Clean disc!

A nice copy of a scarce and rather unusual Pink Floyd-related LP.

Background: Recorded in 1979 but not released until 1981, Nick Mason’s Fictitious Sports is the only solo album by Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason.

Allmusic.com gave Nick Mason’s Fictitious Sports a 3 star review:

Columbia, apparently attempting to cash in on Pink Floyd’s explosion in popularity, released this album in 1981 under Nick Mason’s name when in reality he’s simply the drummer in this incarnation of Carla Bley’s ensemble; Ms. Bley composed all the music and lyrics for this project. It’s possibly her most overtly pop-oriented album, with all eight songs featuring vocals by Soft Machine alumnus Robert Wyatt. The music, by Bley’s standards, is fairly pedestrian if occasionally catchy, though the lyrics are often wryly amusing. So we have songs about failed car motors and a skeptic’s encounter with a flying saucer, and one dedicated to unappreciative audiences titled “Boo to You Too.” …For Pink Floyd completists, this album might provide a glimpse into an alternate universe of which they were otherwise unaware, but fans of Bley’s earlier masterpieces like Escalator Over the Hill are likely to emerge somewhat disappointed.

This single features two rare Pink Floyd tracks that were recorded in 1967.

About this copy: This copy of Tonite Let’s All Make Love in London is a 1990 UK 12″ single on the See for Miles label.

The cover is M- and is still in the original shrink wrap.  The disc is M- and looks unplayed.  Clean disc!

A nice copy of a scarce (and very good) Pink Floyd EP; the recording of “Interstellar Overdrive” is exceptional.

Background: Tonite Let’s All Make Love in London was a film that was released in 1967, depicting the “mod” scene of the day.  The soundtrack album included, among other things, two tracks by the then-unsigned Pink Floyd.

Pink Floyd (Grateful Dead) – Zabriskie Point UK soundtrack LP

Zabriskie Point UK soundtrack LP

Offered for sale is a UK pressing of the soundtrack to Zabriskie Point, featuring music by Pink Floyd, the Grateful Dead, the Kaleidoscope, and others.

The three Pink Floyd tracks on this LP were unavailable anywhere else until relatively recently.

About this copy: This copy of Zabriskie Point is a 1970 UK pressing on the blue and gold MGM label.

The cover is VG++ with very slight ring wear on the back.  The original plastic-lined inner sleeve is included.

The disc is M- on side one and VG+ on side two, with two light marks through tracks 2 and 3.  It’s a very clean disc that appears virtually unplayed aside from those two small marks.

A nice copy of a scarce soundtrack LP.

Background: Michelangelo Antonioni’s 1970 film Zabriskie Point has been long forgotten, but the soundtrack has long been collectible due to the inclusion of three rare tracks by Pink Floyd and an excerpt from “Dark Star” by the Grateful Dead.

The album also includes tracks by the Kaleidoscope, Patti Page, the Youngbloods, Jerry Garcia, Roscoe Holcomb and John Fahey.

Allmusic.com gave Zabriskie Point a 4 star review:

Zabriskie Point — just when you thought it was safe to hurtle into the entertainments of the so-called counterculture, this half-baked slice of nonsense arrived under the direction of Michelangelo Antonioni, who had previously directed Blow-Up, a great success. … As a way of accenting the counterculture he thought he was depicting, Antonioni chose to hire a selection of contemporary rock performers. The results of this effort were mixed indeed, with some performers having their music rejected outright after weeks of work, while others left the project after arguments with the ever-evasive director. …This compilation is well worth hearing for the Floyd numbers, including an altered “Careful with That Axe, Eugene” presented as “Come in Number 51, Your Time Is Up.”

This LP collects a number of the band’s early singles and has never been released in the U.S.

About this copy: This copy of The Best of the Pink Floyd is a 1970 Dutch pressing on the black Columbia label.

The cover is VG+ with light ring wear and a 1 1/4″ (3 cm) split at the center of the spine.

The disc is VG+, with a few scuffs from the heavy paper inner sleeve.  There are only a couple of spindle marks on the labels, so the album has clearly had little play.

A nice copy of a somewhat scarce Pink Floyd LP.

Background: Released only in Europe in 1970, The Best of the Pink Floyd (later reissued as Masters of Rock) was the band’s first compilation.

The album did not chart anywhere, but compiles A and B sides from a number of hard to find singles from the Syd Barrett era of the band.

Pink Floyd – The Dark Side of the Moon New Zealand SQ quadraphonic LP

pink floyd - dark side of the moon new zealand quad LP

Offered for sale is a New Zealand SQ quadraphonic copy of The Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd.

This LP will play on stereo equipment, but has a different mix from the stereo release.  The quad mix was never released on vinyl in the U.S.

About this copy: This copy of The Dark Side of the Moon is a 1983 New Zealand pressing on the Harvest label of an album that was originally released in 1973.

The cover is VG and has moderate water damage.  There is some damage on the back cover at the bottom edge, and the bottom half of the cover is “rippled.”

This LP was issued without inserts.

The disc is M- and may be unplayed.  Clean disc!

A nice copy of an album that’s hard to find as a quad vinyl pressing.

Background:  The Dark Side of the Moon was Pink Floyd’s eighth album and it’s the one that made them superstars.  Reaching #1 in the U.S. and #2 in the UK, the album is one of the biggest selling albums in history.

While the album topped the U.S. charts for only one week, it spent 741 weeks in the U.S. top 200 – fifteen years.

The Dark Side of the Moon was one of three Pink Floyd albums to be remixed for quadraphonic in the mid-1970s, along with Wish You Were Here and Atom Heart Mother.

Allmusic.com gave The Dark Side of the Moon a rare 5 star review:

By condensing the sonic explorations of Meddle to actual songs and adding a lush, immaculate production to their trippiest instrumental sections, Pink Floyd inadvertently designed their commercial breakthrough with Dark Side of the Moon. …Pink Floyd may have better albums than Dark Side of the Moon, but no other record defines them quite as well as this one.

Pink Floyd – Atom Heart Mother UK SQ quadraphonic LP

pink floyd - atom heart mother uk quadraphonic LP

Offered for sale is a UK SQ quadraphonic pressing of Atom Heart Mother by Pink Floyd.

This LP will play on stereo equipment but has different mixes from the stereo release.  The quad version of the album was only released as an 8 track tape in the U.S.

About this copy: This copy of Atom Heart Mother is a 1974 UK pressing on the Harvest label.

This is the second quadraphonic issue of the LP, without the “SQ” logo on the front cover.

The cover is VG++, with slight edge wear.   The disc is M- and appears to be virtually unplayed.  Side one has an “A” stamper code; side two is hard to see but it may also be “A”.

A nice copy of a scarce Pink Floyd LP.  Good sound on this one, too.

Background:  Released in 1970, Atom Heart Mother was the fifth album by Pink Floyd.

The album reached #1 on the UK charts, but peaked at #55 on the U.S. charts, making it what was then the band’s highest-ever charting album in the U.S.

Atom Heart Mother was one of three Pink Floyd albums to be remixed for quadraphonic in the mid-1970s, along with Wish You Were Here and The Dark Side of the Moon.

Allmusic.com gave Atom Heart Mother a 3 star review:

Appearing after the sprawling, unfocused double-album set Ummagumma, Atom Heart Mother may boast more focus, even a concept, yet that doesn’t mean it’s more accessible. If anything, this is the most impenetrable album Pink Floyd released while on Harvest, which also makes it one of the most interesting of the era. Still, it may be an acquired taste even for fans, especially since it kicks off with a side-long, 23-minute extended orchestral piece that may not seem to head anywhere, but is often intriguing, more in what it suggests than what it achieves.
