Beatles – 1967-1970 sealed 1978 U.S. blue vinyl 2 LP set

beatles 1967-1970 u.s. blue vinyl lp

Offered for sale is a still sealed copy of the limited edition, 2 LP blue vinyl U.S. pressing of the Beatles 1967-1970.

About this copy: The copy of Beatles Beatles 1967-1970, is a 1978 U.S. pressing on the blue Capitol label of an album that was originally released in 1973.

As the album is still sealed, the two blue vinyl discs are presumably new and unplayed.

The shrink wrap is fully intact except a 1″ break (2 cm) at the top right corner.   There is a punch hole in the lower right hand corner of the cover.  There is a small break in the cover at the center of the bottom edge. (see photo)

There are two stickers attached to the wrap – one on the front that says “Limited Edition 2 BLUE VINYL DISCS” and one on the back that lists the song titles.

A nice copy of an album that’s becoming quite hard to find still sealed.

Background:  Released in 1973, The Beatles 1967-1970, is a 2 LP compilation album by the Beatles.

The album reached #1 on the U.S. album chart and #2 on the UK chart.

Allmusic.com gave The Beatles 1967-1970 a 4 1/2 star review:

Picking up where 1962-1966 left off, the double-album compilation 1967-1970, commonly called The Blue Album, covers the Beatles’ later records, from Sgt. Pepper’s through Let It Be. Like The Red Album, The Blue Album …contains a mixture of hits, including singles like “Lady Madonna,” “Hey Jude,” and “Revolution” — which had originally appeared only as 45s — plus important album tracks like “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds,” “A Day in the Life,” “While My Guitar Gently Weeps,” and “Come Together,” as well as orphaned tracks such as the single versions of “Let It Be” and “Get Back,” which had never been on any LP before. … As a précis of the group’s final 36 months, it’s all mightily impressive, even if 1967-1970 misses several great songs. But like its predecessor, this set does capture the essence (if not the full range) of the Beatles’ later recordings.

beatles - let it be red vinyl japan lp

Offered for sale is an original red vinyl Japanese pressing of Let It Be by the Beatles, including the original set of two obi.

About this copy: This copy of Let It Be is a 19701 Japanese pressing on the Apple label, pressed on “Everclean” red vinyl.

This is the standard release that followed the limited box set issue.

The cover is VG+, with slight edge and corner wear.  The two obi are M-; the “hojyuhyo” (reorder tag) is still attached to the medallion obi.  The insert is VG++ with slight foxing.

The disc is M- with a number of spindle marks on the labels, but no marks on the vinyl.  Clean disc!

A nice copy of Beatles LP that we rarely see complete.

Background: Let It Be was the final studio album by the Beatles, issued just as they were breaking up in early 1970.  Containing the hits “Let It Be” and “The Long and Winding Road,” the album reached #1 on the album charts in both the U.S. and the UK.

In Japan, the album was released as both a box set with a book and a regular issue with a gatefold cover, similar to the U.S. release.  First pressings were issued on “Everclean” red vinyl, and included 2 obi, rather than the customary one.

Beatles – Rubber Soul limited edition 1982 red vinyl mono Japan LP with obi

beatles rubber soul red vinyl mono japan lp

Offered for sale is a limited edition red vinyl mono Japanese pressing of Rubber Soul by the Beatles, including the original obi.

This album features the UK track listing.

About this copy: This copy of Rubber Soul is a 1982 Japanese mono pressing on the EMI/Odeon label of an album that was originally released in 1966 (in stereo only.)

The cover is M-.  The obi is M-.  The lyric insert is M-.

The red vinyl disc is M- with one spindle mark on the labels and no marks on the vinyl.  Beautiful disc!

A nice copy of a scarce Beatles LP.

Background: Released in December, 1965, Rubber Soul was the seventh Beatles album to be released by Capitol Records.  The album, which had a different track lineup from the UK version, reached #1 on the U.S. album charts.

The UK version reached #1 in that country.

In the 1960s, most Japanese LPs were issued in stereo only, so most Japanese buyers never had the opportunity to hear the original mono mixes of most of the Beatles songs.

In 1982, EMI records released limited edition red vinyl pressings in mono of all of the Beatles albums from Please Please Me through Yellow Submarine.  This series was reissued in 1986, though that series featured a different obi from the 1982 issue.

Allmusic.com gave Rubber Soul a 5 star review:

While the Beatles still largely stuck to love songs on Rubber Soul, the lyrics represented a quantum leap in terms of thoughtfulness, maturity, and complex ambiguities. Musically, too, it was a substantial leap forward, with intricate folk-rock arrangements that reflected the increasing influence of Dylan and the Byrds. The group and George Martin were also beginning to expand the conventional instrumental parameters of the rock group, using a sitar on “Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown),” Greek-like guitar lines on “Michelle” and “Girl,” fuzz bass on “Think for Yourself,” and a piano made to sound like a harpsichord on the instrumental break of “In My Life.”

Beatles – Let It Be UK white vinyl LP

beatles - let it be uk white vinyl lp

Offered for sale is a limited edition white vinyl pressing of Let It Be by the Beatles, issued in Great Britain in 1978 for export only.

About this copy: This copy of Let It Be is a 1978 pressing on the Apple label.

The cover is M- and retains the original shrink wrap.  Unlike many copies of this album, this one does not appear to have any lamination cracks.  There is a sticker on the wrap that says “LIMITED EDITION COLOURED VINYL.”

The white vinyl disc is M- and may be unplayed.  Clean disc!

A beautiful copy of a record that’s become quite hard to find in recent years.

Background: In the late 1970s, collectors were showing a lot of interest in colored vinyl, so record companies around the world began pressing both old and (then-) new titles on colored vinyl as limited edition pressings.

In Great Britain, EMI Records pressed four different titles by the Beatles on colored vinyl: Magical Mystery Tour (yellow), Abbey Road (green), The Beatles (white), and Let It Be, which was also pressed on white vinyl.

All four titles were pressed for export only, and were not sold within the United Kingdom.  Most, if not all, of those titles were exported to the United States, where they were readily available for the short time they were in print.

All four titles are scarce today.

Let It Be was the final studio album by the Beatles, released in May, 1970.  As the album was technically a soundtrack album to the film of the same name, distribution of the album was handled by ABCKO, the company that belonged to Beatles manager Allen Klein, rather than Capitol Records.

When Apple Records was dissolved in 1975, Let It Be became the only Beatles studio album to go out of print, and it was actually out of print for several years in the late 1970s and occasionally turned up for sale in discount bins.

Allmusic.com gave Let It Be a 4 1/2 star review:

The only Beatles album to occasion negative, even hostile reviews, there are few other rock records as controversial as Let It Be.   … All that said, the album is on the whole underrated, even discounting the fact that a sub-standard Beatles record is better than almost any other group’s best work. …As flawed and bumpy as it is, it’s an album well worth having, as when the Beatles were in top form here, they were as good as ever.

Beatles – The Early Beatles sealed 1965 U.S. stereo LP

the early beatles u.s. stereo LP

Offered for sale is a still sealed original U.S. stereo pressing of The Early Beatles by the Beatles.

About this copy: This copy of The Early Beatles is a 1965 (or shortly thereafter) U.S. pressing on the “rainbow” Capitol label.

As the album is still sealed, the record is presumably new and unplayed.  The label and inner sleeve variations are unknown.

The wrap is fully intact except for a small tear at the lower left-hand corner of the cover.  There is a small stain there.  There are several breathe holes in the shrink wrap.

There is a small #5 on the back cover, indicating that this album was pressed at Capitol’s Los Angeles pressing plant.  This copy does not have the “needle damage” disclaimer on the back cover.

A beautiful copy of a relatively scarce Beatles LP, as this album sold somewhat poorly, especially in stereo.

Background: After Capitol Records acquired the rights to the first Beatles album from Vee Jay Records, they opted not to reissue either Introducing the Beatles or the British Please Please Me LPs, but instead put together an altogether different collection of songs from the same material, with the title The Early Beatles.

The album was essentially Introducing the Beatles, with a few tracks left out that had already been released on other albums.  The public was largely indifferent, and the album only reached #43 on the Billboard album chart.

Allmusic.com gave The Early Beatles a 3 1/2 star review:

The Early Beatles does not represent its songs in the sequence — or in their exact content — that its makers intended; not by a long shot. That said, this is also the way that tens of millions of listeners in the U.S. did hear this material between 1965 and 1983. And of course, any means by which one gets to hear 11 1963-vintage tracks by the Beatles is OK. Whatever particular order or specifics of the songs, the listening experience will stack up well against any other 11 songs by anybody else who was walking around back then.

Beatles – Revolver 1969 Japan red vinyl Apple LP with obi

Beatles - Revolver 1969 Japan red vinyl Apple LP

Offered for sale is a  red vinyl Japanese pressing of Revolver by the Beatles, including the original obi.

This copy has the UK track lineup, with 14 songs.

About this copy: This copy of Revolver is a 1969 pressing on the Apple label of an album that was originally released in 1966.

The cover is VG++ and close to M- with trace foxingon the back cover.  The obi is VG+ with some wrinkles on the back, but no tears.  The “hojyuhyo,” or reorder tag, is still attached.

The lyric insert is VG++ with a couple of minor wrinkles.

The black paper inner sleeve has a small 1 cm tear near the center hole.

The red vinyl disc is VG+ with a couple of light hairlines on each side.  There are many spindle marks on the labels.  The album has been played often but has been well cared for.  It plays with slight noise.

A nice copy of a classic (and terrific) Beatles LP.

Background: Revolver, released in August, 1966, was the seventh studio album by the Beatles.  The album reached #1 in the U.S. and UK and has never gone out of print.

Allmusic.com gave Revolver a 5 star review:

All the rules fell by the wayside with Revolver, as the Beatles began exploring new sonic territory, lyrical subjects, and styles of composition. … The biggest miracle of Revolver may be that the Beatles covered so much new stylistic ground and executed it perfectly on one record, or it may be that all of it holds together perfectly. Either way, its daring sonic adventures and consistently stunning songcraft set the standard for what pop/rock could achieve. Even after Sgt. Pepper, Revolver stands as the ultimate modern pop album and it’s still as emulated as it was upon its original release.

Beatles – The Beatles in Italy Japan LP with obi

Beatles - The Beatles in Italy Japan LP

Offered for sale is a Japanese pressing of the compilation album The Beatles in Italy by the Beatles, including the original obi.

About this copy: This copy of The Beatles in Italy is a 1982 Japanese pressing on the EMI/Odeon label of an album that was originally released in 1965 in Italy only.

The cover is M-.  The obi is M-.  The insert is VG+ with slight foxing due to age.

The disc is M- and may be unplayed. Clean disc!

A nice copy of a scarce Beatles LP; this album has never been reissued in Japan.

Background: Released in Italy in 1965, The Beatles in Italy became sought out by collectors after John Lennon gave an interview suggesting that he thought there had been a live album issued in Italy in the 1960s.

People assumed that The Beatles in Italy was such an album, as the title might suggest that.  In fact, the album is a compilation album of studio tracks issued in that country to commemorate the band’s 1965 performances in Italy.

Though only released in Italy initially, the album was eventually released in Israel, the Netherlands, Spain, and Japan.

Tracks are:

  • Long Tall Sally
  • She’s A Woman
  • Matchbox
  • From Me To You
  • I Want To Hold Your Hand
  • Ticket To Ride
  • This Boy
  • Slow Down
  • I Call Your Name
  • Thank You Girl
  • Yes It Is
  • I Feel Fine

Beatles – White Album complete Japan 2 LP set with obi

beatles white album japan lp

Offered for sale is a Japanese copy of The Beatles, also known as, The White Album by the Beatles, including the poster and the original obi.

This 1972 pressing had a numbered cover, unlike U.S. or UK issues of that time.

About this copy: This copy of the White Album is a 1972 pressing on the Apple label of an album that was originally released in 1968.

The cover is VG+ with moderate foxing, but no wear. The number “A 142653” printed on it in the lower right hand corner.

The obi is M-; the “hojyuhyo” (reorder tag) is attached.   The poster is VG+ with moderate foxing, but no rips, tears, or holes..

The four photos and the song title card are missing.

The discs are M- with slight foxing and a couple of spindle marks on the labels, but no marks on the vinyl.  Clean discs!

A nice, if imperfect, copy of a classic LP.

Background:  The Beatles, aka the “White Album”, was the ninth studio album by the Beatles (by the UK method of counting, anyway.)  Released in late 1968, the album reached #1 on the charts pretty much everywhere and is the largest-selling album in the band’s history, as a sale of a double album counted as two albums sold.

Allmusic.com gave The Beatles a 5 star review:

Each song on the sprawling double album The Beatles is an entity to itself, as the band touches on anything and everything it can. This makes for a frustratingly scattershot record or a singularly gripping musical experience, depending on your view, but what makes the so-called White Album interesting is its mess. …None of it sounds like it was meant to share album space together, but somehow The Beatles creates its own style and sound through its mess.

Beatles – Live at the Star Club 1977 Japan white label promotional 2 LP set with obi

beatles live at the star club japan promo lp

Offered for sale is an original U.S. test pressing of the 1977 double live album Live at the Star Club in Hamburg, Germany by the Beatles.

About this copy: This copy of Live at the Star Club in Hamburg, Germany is a 1977 Japanese pressing on the Victor label.

The cover is VG with slight ring wear and moderate edge and corner wear.  The obi is VG, with three small tears on the right hand edge and some foxing on the back.

The booklet is missing.

The two white label promotional discs are M- with one or two spindle marks and a couple of foxing spots on the labels, but no marks on the vinyl.  Clean discs!

A nice copy of a rare Beatles promotional LP.

Background:  Live at the Star Club in Hamburg, Germany is a recording of one of the Beatles’ last performances in Hamburg in late 1962, right before they became famous.

As Ringo Starr had joined the band the previous August, he was playing during the band’s two week stay in Germany.

The manager for another band brought a tape recorder to one of the performances and recorded both his band and the Beatles, using a tape recorder with a single microphone.

The tapes were largely forgotten for years, but in 1977, the then owners of the tapes spent $100,000 cleaning up the sound and released them as a double album on the newly-formed Lingasong label.

The album, while poor in sound quality, did have some artistic significance and the album’s release also inspired Capitol Records to release the Live at the Hollywood Bowl album later that same year.   It also sold reasonably well, reaching #111 on the U.S. album charts.

Though most promotional copies of Live at the Star Club in Hamburg, Germany were pressed on black vinyl, a few were pressed on either red or blue vinyl.  Both the blue vinyl and the red vinyl pressings are quite rare.

The album reached #111 on the U.S. album charts.

Allmusic.com gave Live at the Star Club in Hamburg, Germany a 2 star review:

The historical interest of this album is considerable: The Beatles, on the precipice of fame, playing their last Hamburg club show on December 31, 1962 (contrary to the 1961 date given on some liner notes). The problem, from a latter-day perspective, was that the Beatles didn’t play all that well, and, more importantly, the sound is not up to par in the least, as it was captured on a primitive portable recorder. That said, it’s interesting to hear the Beatles as they were in their club days, with a set list (almost exclusively covers) of early rock & roll tunes, several of which never made their way onto any official Beatle release.

The numbered cover  (A048316) is in VG+ , with a stain at the bottom of the cover and a smaller one at the top edge, but no significant wear or splits.

The four bonus photos are M- with no rips, holes, or tears.  The nearly-always-missing song listing card is M-.

The two red vinyl discs are VG++ and close to M-, with a couple of faint sleeve scuffs  The records have clearly been played only a few times.  There is a bit of surface noise in between tracks.

A nice copy of a classic LP that is almost always found in terrible condition and the only complete copy we’ve ever had for sale.
