Buffalo Springfield – Buffalo Springfield sealed mono first LP with “Baby Don’t Scold Me”

Buffalo Springfield - Buffalo Springfield sealed mono first LP with withdrawn track

Offered for sale is a still sealed mono copy of Buffalo Springfield, Buffalo Springfield’s 1966 self-titled debut LP, including the withdrawn song, “Baby, Don’t Scold Me.”

Shortly after release, the album was withdrawn and reissued with “For What It’s Worth” used in place of “Baby Don’t Scold Me.”

About this copy: The copy offered for sale is a still sealed mono copy of the original pressing, 33-200, including “Baby, Don’t Scold Me” and omitting “For What It’s Worth.”

As the album is sealed, the record is presumably new and unplayed.  The shrink wrap is tight and fully intact.  There are two punch holes in the cover; one at the top left and one at the lower left.

A rare opportunity to own a sealed copy of this classic LP.

Background: Buffalo Springfield is widely regarded as one of the more influential groups of the 1960s, but when their first LP was released in December of 1966, the album, catalog number 33-200,  just sat on store shelves, gathering dust.  This was largely due to the lack of a hit single to drive sales of the album.  The first single, “Nowadays Clancy Can’t Even Sing,” stalled at #110 on the charts.

In January, 1967, the band released the song “For What It’s Worth” and the song reached #7 on the Billboard charts.  Atco Records decided to add “For What It’s Worth” to the album, but in the process, they removed the song “Baby, Don’t Scold Me” and rearranged the order of the songs on the album.  New pressings, released in March 1967, were assigned a new catalog number, 33-200A.  Sales of the album improved, and the album eventually peaked at #80 on the album charts.

Original pressings of the album containing “Baby, Don’t Scold Me” are quite rare, as they were only available for about three months before being replaced with the later version of the album.  In 40 years of selling records, we’ve only had two copies of the first version of the album, including this one.

Allmusic.com gave Buffalo Springfield a 4 star review:

The band themselves were displeased with this record, feeling that the production did not capture their on-stage energy and excitement. Yet to most ears, this debut sounds pretty great, featuring some of their most melodic and accomplished songwriting and harmonies, delivered with a hard-rocking punch…. The entire album bursts with thrilling guitar and vocal interplay, with a bright exuberance that would tone down considerably by their second record.

Julie London – Collection of 67 Still Sealed U.S. Albums

julie london album collection

Offered for sale is a unique collection of sixty seven (67) still sealed American LP releases by pop singer Julie London, issued between 1955 and 1969.  All 67 LPs in the collection are still sealed (60 in shrink wrap, and 7 without shrink but with the record still sealed in a plastic inner sleeve.)  There are 37 different titles in the collection, including two compilations.

Most of the titles include both the mono and stereo releases for that particular title.  One of the compilations, Julie’s Golden Greats, includes two different covers, with each in both mono and stereo.

While some of Julie’s albums are more common than others, sealed copies of many of her titles are quite difficult to find today.

This collection isn’t complete, but all but one of her albums is represented here (missing title: Send for Me)  Nevertheless, it’s a very rare opportunity to obtain a nearly complete collection of sealed albums by this popular and photogenic artist.

The photos shown are composites; we have larger photos available, including front and back cover photos of each record and for the seven titles with sealed plastic inner sleeves, photos of the records themselves.  There are more than 100 photos in all; if you would like to see them, please contact us and we will send you a download link.

Julie London – Julie is Her Name Volume II sealed France reissue LP

Julie London - Julie is Her Name Volume II sealed France reissue LP

Offered for sale is a sealed mono reissue of Julie London’s 1958 LP, Julie is Her Name, Volume II, released in France in 1985.

About this copy: Long out of print worldwide, EMI France reissued this LP in 1985 in the original mono.  The copy offered for sale is still sealed and unplayed.  A beautiful copy of a terrific LP.

Background: We’ll let AllMusic.com describe this one:

Three years after her debut, Julie Is Her Name, Julie London returned to the intimate jazz guitar and bass backing that resulted in a Top Ten album and single (the still-popular “Cry Me a River”). You can almost see the cigar-smoking executives at Liberty Records planning this one out — “Hey, if the public loved it the first time, they’re bound to love it again, right?” Well, to give the cigar-chompers some credit, Julie London favored this backing for her live performances and she originally had to fight to be able to record with this intimate jazz backing…. Since the plunging-neckline album cover to London’s debut was talked about as much as the music, Liberty Records decided to continue the concept by literally putting spotlight beams on the famed beauty’s chest. Thankfully, Julie London had enough jazz credentials and focused vocal talent that such blatant cheesecake shots remain of secondary importance to the music contained on the album.

Overholt, Tate and Phillips – self-titled sealed direct-to-disc LP

Overholt, Tate and Phillips - self-titled sealed direct-to-disc LP

Offered for sale is a sealed copy of the limited edition, direct to disc LP by Overholt, Tate and Phillips, issued only in Canada in 1977 by Kiras Musical Works.

About this copy:  The record is still sealed in its original shrink wrap, though the wrap does have a few tears.  The record is assumed to be mint and unplayed.

Background: We don’t know much about this early and relatively obscure direct to disc LP, except that the music seems to be in the pop/jazz vein.  It’s the only copy we’ve ever seen.

Prokofieff Symphony #7 sealed Classic Records 4 LP 45 RPM set

Prokofieff Symphony #7 sealed Classic Records 4 LP 45 RPM set

Offered for sale is a sealed copy of the 4 LP, 180 gram, 45 RPM Classic Records reissue of Prokofieff’s Symphony #7 and Overture Russe, by Jean Martinon and the Paris Conservatorie Orchestra, originally issued in 1959 by RCA Records as LSC-2288.

About this copy: The record offered for sale is a sealed, limited edition reissue of Prokofieff’s Symphony #7 and Overture Russe, by Jean Martinon and the Paris Conservatorie Orchestra, originally issued in 1959 by RCA Records as LSC-2288.  This was pressed by Classic Records approximately ten years ago on 4 single-sided, 180 gram, 45 RPM discs for optimum sound quality.  This is an early pressing; each of the four records is packaged in a printed cover that duplicates the original RCA cover.  The disc labels should also duplicate the original RCA “shaded dog” labels that RCA used at the time of the album’s original release.  The LPs are sealed and are believed to be perfectly mint and unplayed.

There is an 8″ split in the shrink wrap at the bottom.  A beautiful copy of a pressing that is hard to find in this condition.

Background: Classic Records earned a solid reputation by reissuing long-out-of-print and highly sought out classical titles originally released by RCA in the late 1950s and early 1960s.  These pressings offered great dynamics and wide, impressive soundstages.  Unfortunately, they also sold in limited numbers when new and finding mint used copies has become quite difficult.  Classic Records began reissuing many of these titles in the mid 1990s, first as 180 gram 33 1/3 LPs, and later as limited edition pressings cut at 45 RPM on multiple, single-sided discs for optimum sound quality.  Some of these titles were pressed multiple times at different weights and types of vinyl.  Later pressings note Quiex SV, Quiex SV-P, Clarity Vinyl or 200 Gram vinyl on the jackets.  Earlier, 180 gram pressings omit this.

Porcupine Tree – Fear of a Blank Planet sealed pink vinyl PinkPop edition

Porcupine Tree - Fear of a Blank Planet sealed pink vinyl PinkPop edition

Offered for sale is a sealed copy of the limited pink vinyl edition of Porcupine Tree’s 2007 release, Fear of a Blank Planet.

About this copy:  The copy offered for sale is a Dutch pink vinyl pressing, and it is still sealed with the PinkPop sticker on the cover.  The records are unplayed and presumably mint.  There are no rips, tears or holes in the wrap.

This is a gorgeous copy of one of the harder to find Porcupine Tree releases.

Background:  Fear of a Blank Planet was Porcupine Tree’s breakthrough album worldwide, and even made a significant dent in the charts in the United States.  When first released in 2007, there were several vinyl issues of the album, all released in the Netherlands – a standard black vinyl pressing, a blue marbled vinyl pressing of 1000 copies, and a very limited pink vinyl pressing of 500 copies, issued to promote the band’s appearance at the Dutch PinkPop festival.

Most of the pink copies were sold at retail in Europe; as a result, few were exported and those copies were sold to people on the record company’s mailing list.

Blackfield (Steven Wilson) – Blackfield II sealed original 2007 LP

Blackfield - Blackfield II sealed original 2007 LP

Offered for sale is a still sealed U.S. pressing of the original 2007 album by Blackfield, Blackfield II, featuring Porcupine Tree founder Steven Wilson.

About this copy: The copy offered for sale is a 2007 U.S. pressing on the Gates of Dawn label.

As the album is sealed, the record is presumably new and unplayed.

The album is still sealed in its loose perforated wrap, with no rips, tears, dents or holes.

A great copy of a terrific album.

Background: Porcupine Tree founder/singer/writer Steven Wilson is a busy guy – besides his work in PT, he’s found time over the years to record ambient music as Bass Communion, Krautrock-esque material with IEM, pop work as No Man, some solo stuff, and several albums worth of collaboration with Israeli singer Aviv Geffen as Blackfield.  The Blackfield releases are melodic, but a little less heavy and progressive than the Porcupine Tree material.

AllMusic.com gave Blackfield II four and a half stars, saying:

The sophomore release for this melodic duo (actually a five-piece band, but the leads are Steven Wilson and Aviv Geffen) based to some degree on the progressive bent of Porcupine Tree covers much of the same ground as their debut. The sound is still firmly in the realm of progressive rock, with hints of Radiohead and Oasis. Unlike Blackfield’s previous album which was recorded off and on over a two-year span, this one was recorded in one short stretch, and shows somewhat more consistency in tone as a result. …The short nature of Blackfield II (coming in around 42 minutes) will almost certainly have some of the fans wishing for more.

Fortunes – It’s the Real Thing sealed 1969 promo-only Coca-Cola LP

Fortunes - It's the Real Thing sealed 1969 promo-only Coca-Cola LP

Offered for sale is a rare, still sealed promotional-only LP by the Fortunes, called It’s the Real Thing, issued in 1969 to promote the Coca-Cola company.

About this copy: The record is still sealed, and is unplayed and believed to be perfectly mint.  The wrap has no rips, holes or tears.  There is just a bit of wear at the two corners on the spine.

This is quite a hard record to find in any condition, and it’s the only sealed copy we’ve ever seen.

Background: The Fortunes aren’t all that well remembered today, but during their recording career, which ran from 1965 to 1971, they released six songs that made the pop charts in the U.S., including You’ve Got Your Troubles in 1965 and Here Comes That Rainy Day Feeling Again in 1971.  Their albums are fairly scarce (especially stereo copies of their first album), but none are as rare as this LP, entitled It’s the Real Thing.

This LP was released in 1969 and issued to promote the Coca-Cola company and was not commercially released.  We’ve read (can’t remember where) that the album was issued at a stockholder’s meeting, rather than sent out as some sort of general promotional item, but we cannot confirm that.  We do know, however, that some forty-odd years later, it’s a really tough album to find.

Track listing:

Side one:

  1. It’s the Real Thing
  2. It’s the Real Thing – Overture
  3. Books and Films
  4. Red Clay County Line
  5. Same Old Feeling
  6. Someone is Standing Outside

Side two:

  1. Everything in the Garden
  2. Lifetime of Love
  3. Feelings
  4. This Town Should Start Believing
  5. Sad Sad Sad
  6. Today I killed a Man
