Iveys (Badfinger)- Maybe Tomorrow sealed 1992 UK LP + EP

iveys - maybe tomorrow 1992 UK LP

Offered for sale is a still sealed copy of the 1992 UK pressing of Maybe Tomorrow by the Iveys, including the bonus 12″ EP.

Note: This 1992 issue includes a bonus 12″ EP with four songs that were not on the original LP: “No Escaping Your Love,” “Mrs. Jones,” “And Her Daddy’s a Millionaire,” and “Looking for My Baby.”

About this copy: This copy of Maybe Tomorrow is a 1992 UK pressing on the Apple label of an album that was originally released in 1969 in Japan, Italy, and Germany only.

As the album is still sealed, the records are presumably new and unplayed.

The wrap is fully intact with no rips, tears, or holes.  An original price tag from UK retailer HMV is attached to the cover under the shrink wrap.

A beautiful copy of a scarce Badfinger LP.

Background: Released in 1969 in Japan, Italy, and Germany, but with the release canceled in the U.S. and the UK, Maybe Tomorrow was the first album by Badfinger, issued under the band’s original name of The Iveys.

The album did not chart anywhere.

Allmusic.com gave Maybe Tomorrow a 4 1/2 star review:

…Maybe Tomorrow ranks with Badfinger’s best; in some ways, it’s actually preferable to Badfinger’s albums, because the production (four tracks by Mal Evans, the rest by a then-unknown Tony Visconti) is much fresher and less precise than it would be on Badfinger’s slicker later albums. (Even the six tracks that eventually ended up in remixed form on Badfinger’s debut, Magic Christian Music, sound better here.) Though the party line has always been that the Iveys sounded like the Beatles, in reality, these 12 tracks have much more in common with the minor-key mopery of the early Bee Gees.

Rolling Stones – Their Satanic Majesties Request sealed 1967 U.S. stereo LP with 3D lenticular cover

rolling stones - their satanic majesties request u.s. stereo lp

Offered for sale is a still sealed original U.S. stereo pressing of Their Satanic Majesties Request by the Rolling Stones, including the original 3D lenticular cover.

About this copy: This copy of Their Satanic Majesties Request is an 1967 U.S. stereo pressing on the London label.

As the album is still sealed, the record is presumably new and unplayed.

The wrap is fully intact with no rips, tears, or holes. An original price tag is attached to the shrink on the front cover.

Unlike many copies of this album, this copy does not have a punch hole in the cover.

A beautiful copy of an album that is very hard to find as a sealed original pressing.  This is the nicest copy we’ve ever had for sale.

Background: Released in 1967, Their Satanic Majesties Request was the sixth album (in the UK) by the Rolling Stones and their eighth album in the United States.  This was the first album by the band to be released in both countries with identical material.

The LP reached #3 on the UK charts and #2 in the U.S.  The album was originally released with a plastic lenticular overlay that gave the cover photo a 3D effect.  Later pressings had only a printed image.

Allmusic.com gave Their Satanic Majesties Request a 4 star review:

Without a doubt, no Rolling Stones album — and, indeed, very few rock albums from any era — split critical opinion as much as the Rolling Stones’ psychedelic outing. Many dismiss the record as sub-Sgt. Pepper posturing; others confess, if only in private, to a fascination with the album’s inventive arrangements, which incorporated some African rhythms, Mellotrons, and full orchestration. What’s clear is that never before or after did the Stones take so many chances in the studio. … It’s a much better record than most people give it credit for being, though, with a strong current of creeping uneasiness that undercuts the gaudy psychedelic flourishes. In 1968, the Stones would go back to the basics, and never wander down these paths again, making this all the more of a fascinating anomaly in the group’s discography.

Grateful Dead – Workingman’s Dead sealed 2020 limited edition U.S. picture disc LP

grateful dead workingman's dead u.s. picture disc LP

Offered for sale is a still sealed copy of the limited edition U.S. picture disc pressing of Workingman’s Dead by the Grateful Dead.

About this copy: This copy of Workingman’s Dead is a 2020 U.S. pressing on the Warner Brothers label of an album that was originally released in 1970.

Note: While this is technically a U.S. release, the discs were manufactured in the European Union.

As the album is still sealed, the picture disc LP is presumably new and unplayed.

The wrap is mostly intact, though there is a tear at the lower right hand corner and very slight wear at the corner.

There is a hype sticker attached to the wrap that says, “Worikingman’s Dead 50th Anniversary Collector’s Edition Limted Edition of 10,000.”  A second smaller sticker says “50th Anniversary Edition.”

A nice copy of a scarce picture disc, as these sold out quickly.

Background: Released in June 1970, The Workingman’s Dead was the fifth album by the Grateful Dead.

The album reached #27 on the U.. album chart.

Allmusic.com gave Workingman’s Dead a five star review:

For a group already established as exploratory free-form rockers of the highest acclaim, Workingman’s Dead’s eight tunes threw off almost all improvisatory tendencies in favor of spare, thoughtful looks at folk, country, and American roots music with more subdued sounds than the band had managed up until then. The songs also focused more than ever before on singing and vocal harmonies, influenced in no small way by a growing friendship with Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. The band embraced complex vocal arrangements with campfire-suited folk on “Uncle John’s Band” and the psychedelic cowboy blues of “High Time.”

The abrupt shift toward sublime acoustic sounds on Workingman’s Dead completely changed what the Grateful Dead meant to their listeners at large. The enormous risk they took in changing their sound entirely resulted in a heartbreakingly beautiful, unquestionably pure statement and one of the more important documents of its time. They’d continue this trend on the even more roots-minded American Beauty, recorded later the same year, but the limitlessness, fearlessness, and true power of the band began here.

Metallica – And Justice for All sealed 1988 U.S. 2 LP set

metallica and justice for all u.s. lp

Offered for sale is a sill sealed original U.S. pressing of the double album …And Justice for All by Metallica.

About this copy: This copy of …And Justice for All is a 1988 pressing on the Elektra label.

As the album is still sealed, the records are presumably new and unplayed.

The wrap is mostly intact; there is a 3″ (8 cm) break in the wrap at the top center of the cover.  There is a very slight split in the cover there.  There is also a very tiny break in the wrap at the two right-hand corners.

There is a hype sticker on the cover that  says “9 New Songs” and mentions that the album was direct metal mastered.   There is an original price sticker in the upper right hand corner of the cover (not shown in photo.)

A nice copy of a rare Metallica LP, as most copies were sold on compact disc when the album was first released.

Background: Released in 1988, …And Justice Fro All was the fourth studio album by Metallica.

The album reached #4 on the UK charts and #6 in the U.S.

Allmusic.com gave …And Justice for All a 4 1/2 star review:

The most immediately noticeable aspect of …And Justice for All isn’t Metallica’s still-growing compositional sophistication or the apocalyptic lyrical portrait of a society in decay. It’s the weird, bone-dry production. The guitars buzz thinly, the drums click more than pound, and Jason Newsted’s bass is nearly inaudible. It’s a shame that the cold, flat sound obscures some of the sonic details, because …And Justice for All is Metallica’s most complex, ambitious work; every song is an expanded suite, with only two of the nine tracks clocking in at under six minutes. It takes a while to sink in, but given time, …And Justice for All reveals some of Metallica’s best material.

Note: The songs on this LP were newly recorded for this album; the LP is not a compilation.

About this copy:  This copy of Golden Hits of the Paris Sisters is a 1967 U.S. pressing on the Sidewalk label.

As the album is still sealed, the record is presumably new and unplayed.

A beautiful copy of a rare (and very good) LP.  The Paris Sisters only released three albums and all three are very difficult to find in any condition.

Background: Released in 1967, Golden Hits of the Paris Sisters was the second album by the Paris Sisters.  Despite the title, all of the songs on the album were newly-recorded for this release.

Monkees – The Monkees Golden Hits sealed 1970 U.S. mail order LP

the monkees golden hits u.s. LP

Offered for sale is a still sealed original U.S. pressing of The Monkees Golden Hits by the Monkees, issued as a mail order item.

About this copy: This copy of The Monkees Golden Hits is a 1970 U.S. stereo pressing on the Colgems label.

As the album is still sealed, the record is presumably new and unplayed.

The wrap is fully intact with no rips, tears, or holes.

A beautiful copy of a rare Monkees LP that is usually found in poor condition, as this cover is prone to wear.  This is the first copy we’ve ever had for sale.

Background: Released in 1970, The Monkees Golden Hits is a compilation album that was sold only via mail order.

To purchase the record, you had to send in $1.50 and two box tops from Alpha Bits breakfast cereal.   The album did not sell well and is one of the rarest U.S. Monkees LPs.

As Peter Tork was no longer a member of the band in 1970, the back cover photo shows only Davy Jones, Micky Dolenz, and Mike Nesmith.

Tracks are:

  • (Theme From) The Monkees (shown as “Monkees Theme” on cover)
  • Valeri (shown as “Vallerie” on cover)
  • Forget That Girl

Beatles – White Album sealed 1978 U.S. promotional white vinyl 2 LP set

beatles white album white vinyl u.s. lp

Offered for sale is a still sealed limited edition white vinyl U.S. pressing of the Beatles self-titled LP, The Beatles, also known as the White Album, complete with poster and four photo inserts.

Note: This is a promotional copy; Capitol Records marked those with clean punch holes in the upper right hand corner of the cover.

About this copy:  This copy of the White Album is a limited edition U.S. pressing from 1978 on white vinyl, pressed on the then-current maroon Capitol label.

As the album is still sealed, the records are presumably new and unplayed.  The poster and four photo inserts are included.

There is a hype sticker on the shrink wrap indicating that the album is a white vinyl limited edition.

The wrap is mostly intact; there is a tiny tear at the upper part of the back cover (1 cm) and a small break and a gray stain at the lower right hand corner of the front cover.

A nice copy of an increasingly scarce LP, and one we rarely have in stock for very long.

Background: In 1978, collectors were showing a lot of interest in both picture discs and colored vinyl records, so record companies worldwide issued a number of new and older titles in those formats to satisfy collector demand.

In the United States, Capitol Records pressed three different albums by the Beatles on colored vinyl – The Beatles 1962-1966 on red vinyl, The Beatles 1967-1970 on blue vinyl, and The Beatles, or The White Album on white vinyl.

All three pressings are collectible, though the White Album seems to be the one that attracts the most demand from collectors today.  For some reason, the White Album is one of the most sought-out colored vinyl LPs.  It’s also the hardest one to find in good condition, as the white cover is easily prone to wear.

Allmusic.com gave The Beatles a 5 star review:

Each song on the sprawling double album The Beatles is an entity to itself, as the band touches on anything and everything it can. This makes for a frustratingly scattershot record or a singularly gripping musical experience, depending on your view, but what makes the so-called White Album interesting is its mess. …None of it sounds like it was meant to share album space together, but somehow The Beatles creates its own style and sound through its mess.

Grateful Dead – American Beauty sealed 2020 U.S. picture disc LP

grateful dead american beauty u.s. picture disc LP

Offered for sale is a still sealed copy of the limited edition U.S. picture disc pressing of American Beauty by the Grateful Dead.

About this copy: This copy of American Beauty is a 2020 pressing on the Warner Brothers/Rhino label of an album that was originally released in 1970.

This pressing was limited to 15,000 copies and quickly sold out.

As the album is still sealed, the record is presumably new and unplayed.

The wrap is fully intact with no rips, tears, or holes.  There are two hype stickers on the wrap – a small round one that says “50th Anniversary Edition” and a rectangular one that says “American Beauty 50th Anniversary Collector’s Edition Limited Edition of 15,000 The Crown Jewel of the Grateful Dead’s Studio Output.”

A nice copy of a classic LP.  We’ve thought this album should have been pressed as a picture disc decades ago; we’re glad to see it has finally been done.

Background: Released in 1970, American Beauty was the sixth album by the Grateful Dead.

The album reached #19 on the U.S. album chart.

Allmusic.com gave American Beauty a 5 star review:

American Beauty was recorded just a few months after its predecessor, both expanding and improving on the bluegrass, folk, and psychedelic country explorations of Workingman’s Dead with some of the band’s most brilliant compositions. The songs here have a noticeably more relaxed and joyous feel. … American Beauty eventually spawned the band’s highest charting single — “Truckin’,” … It’s easily the masterwork of their studio output, and a strong contender for the best music the band ever made, even including the countless hours of live shows captured on tape in the decades that followed.

Simon and Garfunkel – Bookends sealed 1968 U.S. stereo LP with poster

simon & garfunkel - bookends u.s. stereo LP

Offered for sale is a still sealed U.S. stereo pressing of Bookends by Simon and Garfunkel, including the original poster.

Note: This copy has a paper hype sticker promoting “Mrs. Robinson;” it may be an original 360° Sound label pressing.

About this copy: This copy of Bookends is a still sealed U.S. stereo pressing on the Columbia label.

As the album is sealed, the record is presumably new and unplayed.

The label variation is unknown.  However, first pressings had a paper sticker on the wrap that said, “Featuring their complete version of their hit “Mrs. Robinson.”  Later pressings used a clear plastic sticker.

That means that this copy likely has the original “two-eye” or “360° Sound” label, though we cannot guarantee that.

The wrap is fully intact with no rips, tears, or holes.  This copy does not include the clear plastic sticker that featured the album’s title and catalog number.  There is a very tiny corner bend in the upper right hand corner of the cover.

This copy should include a poster. (See photo.)

A beautiful copy of a classic LP that is often found with cover wear.

Background:  Bookends was the fourth album by Simon and Garfunkel, released in April, 1968.  Featuring the singles “A Hazy Shade of Winter” and “Mrs. Robinson,” the album reached #1 on the Billboard album charts.

Bookends has never really gone out of print, but finding early or original pressings of the album is quite hard, as Columbia changed their label design about two years after the release of the album.  Finding nice copies with the original label that said “360° Sound” is quite difficult today.

Early pressings of Bookends are quite desirable, as the master tapes for the Bookends have reportedly been lost, which is why we’ve never seen a high quality audiophile reissue of the album.  All recent reissues have been made from tapes that are copies of copies.

The sound on these early pressings is exceptional.

Allmusic.com gave Bookends a rare 5 star review:

Simon & Garfunkel quietly slipped Bookends, their fourth album, into the bins with a whisper in March 1968. They are equal collaborators with producer/engineer Roy Halee in a multivalently layered song cycle observing the confusion of those seeking an elusive American Dream, wistfully reflecting on innocence lost forever to the cold winds of change. … Bookends’ problematic, disillusioned themes, sometimes disguised in wry humor, striking arrangements, and augmented orchestral instrumentation, portray the sounds of people in an American life that they no longer understand, or understands them. Simon & Garfunkel never overstate; instead they observe, almost journalistically, enormous life and cultural questions in the process of them being asked. In just over 29 minutes, Bookends is stunning in its vision of a bewildered America in search of itself.

Shadows of Knight – Back Door Men sealed 1966 U.S. mono garage LP

shadows of knight back door men u.s. mono lp

Offered for sale is a still sealed U.S. mono copy of Back Door Men, the second album by the Shadows of Knight.

About this copy: This copy of Back Door Men is a 1966 U.S. mono pressing on the Dunwich label.

As the album is still sealed, the record is presumably new and unplayed.

The wrap is largely intact, but there is a 1″ x 2″ (5 cm x 10 cm) piece missing from the front and small tears along the edges, where the thick wrap is a bit frayed.   There is a 2″ (5 cm) tear in the wrap at the lower right hand corner.

The cover is VG+, due to slight wear at the edges where the wrap is torn.

A nice copy of a surprisingly scarce (and very good) 1960s garage LP.  This is the only copy of this album we’ve ever had for sale.

Background: Released in late 1966, Back Door Men was the second album by Chicago’s Shadows of Knight.

The album did not chart, but two singles from the album (“Bad Little Woman” and “I’m Gonna Make You Mine”) reached #91 and #90 on the U.S. singles chart.

Allmusic.com gave Back Door Men a 4 1/2 star review:

The original LP version of this album, the second by the legendary white Chicago garage punk/blues outfit, was one of the most sought-after artifacts of mid-’60s punk rock. Back Door Men was a loud, feedback-laden, sneering piece of rock & roll defiance, mixing raunchy anthems to teenage lust (“Gospel Zone,” “Bad Little Woman”), covers of Chicago blues classics (Willie Dixon’s “Spoonful,” Jimmy Reed’s “Peepin’ and Hidin'”), raga rock (“The Behemoth”), folk-rock (“Hey Joe,” “Three for Love,” “I’ll Make You Sorry”), and a blues-punk grab off of commercial Top 40 (“Tomorrow’s Gonna Be Another Day”) all on one 12″ platter. What makes the record even more startling is that every one of these tracks, however far afield they go from one another, works.
