George Harrison – Electronic Sound sealed 1969 U.S. Apple LP

george harrison - electronic sound u.s. lp

Offered for sale is a still sealed U.S. pressing of Electronic Sound by George Harrison.

About this copy: This copy of Electronic Sound is a sealed original U.S. issue on the Zapple label.

As the album is sealed, the record is presumably new and unplayed.

The wrap is fully intact except for a 2″ break on the bottom edge, where the cover is just beginning to split.

A nice copy of a scarce Beatles-related LP and the first sealed copy we’ve had for sale in decades.

Background: Electronic Sound is an acquired taste; it’s the result of Harrison fooling around with a Moog synthesizer with the help of Bernie Krause and the results are rather interesting.

The LP was issued on the Beatles’ short-lived Zapple Records label, which was intended to provide an outlet for more avant garde recordings. The label only issued two records, this one and John and Yoko’s Life With the Lions before being shut down by the Beatles’ then-manager, Allen Klein.

Allmusic.com gave Electronic Sound a 4 star review:

Hard as it is to believe, George Harrison, guitar picker, was also an electronic music pioneer, as these two lengthy, abstract tone poems for early-vintage Moog synthesizer reveal. A naif in the electronic sphere, George had a lot of help putting this music together, particularly from ace California electronic composer Bernie Krause. …Though scoffed at when they were released, these pieces can hold their own and then some with many of those of other, more seriously regarded electronic composers. And when you consider that synthesizers were only capable of playing one note at a time and sounds could not be stored or recalled with the push of a button, the achievement becomes even more remarkable. Alas, George never followed up on this direction, which, like the Zapple label, was abandoned after this release.

Miles Davis – Miles in the Sky sealed 1968 U.S. stereo LP

miles davis - miles in the sky LP

Offered for sale is an original still sealed stereo U.S. pressing of Miles in the Sky by Miles Davis.

While the shrink wrap has been removed from the cover, the record is still sealed in the plastic inner sleeve.

About this copy: This copy of Miles in the Sky is an original 1968 U.S. pressing on the Columbia 360° Sound label.

The cover is VG++, with trace wear at the corners.

The disc is still sealed in the plastic inner sleeve and is presumably new and unplayed.   It’s a fairly early pressing, with 2A/2A stampers.

A beautiful copy of a classic Miles Davis LP that is rarely found in this condition.

Background: Released in 1968, Miles in the Sky was the fifteenth album Davis recorded for Columbia.  The album didn’t make the main Billboard album charts, but reached #5 on the Top Jazz Albums chart.

Allmusic.com gave Miles in the Sky a 3 1/2 star review:

With the 1968 album Miles in the Sky, Miles Davis explicitly pushed his second great quintet away from conventional jazz, pushing them toward the jazz-rock hybrid that would later become known as fusion. Here, the music is still in its formative stages, and it’s a little more earth-bound than you might expect, especially following on the heels of the shape-shifting, elusive Nefertiti. … Intriguing, successful jams in many respects, but even with the notable additions of electric instruments, and with the deliberately noisy “Country Son,” this is less visionary than its predecessor and feels like a transitional album — and, like many transitional albums, it’s intriguing and frustrating in equal measures.

Blue Cheer – Blue Cheer sealed 1969 U.S. LP

blue cheer - blue cheer LP

Offered for sale is an original still sealed U.S. pressing of the fourth album by Blue Cheer, the self-titled Blue Cheer.

About this copy: This copy of Blue Cheer is a sealed original 1969 U.S. pressing on the Philips label.

As the album is still sealed, the record is presumably new and unplayed.

The wrap is fully intact, with no rips or tears.  There is a small punch hole in the lower right hand corner.

A nice copy of a scarce Blue Cheer LP, as all the albums after the first one are rather scarce.

Background: Released in 1969, Blue Cheer was the fourth album by the band of the same name.  The album did not reach the U.S. album charts.

Allmusic.com gave Blue Cheer a 3 1/2 star review:

After working with two monstrously loud guitar heroes, Leigh Stephens and Randy Holden, Blue Cheer wanted to pursue a more subtle musical direction, and on their fourth album, simply titled Blue Cheer, they followed the path of the first half of 1969’s New! Improved! Blue Cheer, featuring guitarist Bruce Stephens and keyboard man Ralph Burns Kellogg, instead of the power trio format they pioneered on their first two albums and the second half of New! Improved! with Holden. Drummer Paul Whaley had also dropped out of the band by album number four, with Norman Mayell taking over the traps and leaving bassist and singer Dickie Peterson as the only original member of Blue Cheer, all within two years of the release of Vincebus Eruptum. Given all these changes, it’s no wonder Blue Cheer sounds so much different than they did on the band’s first two LP’s, but so long as you’re not expecting the monolithic power of their earliest stuff, it’s a fun album that generates an impressive groove. …. If Vincebus Eruptum and Outsideinside sounded like music for an acid-and-amphetamine-crazed Saturday night biker party, Blue Cheer is the stuff the same bikers would put on for a Sunday beer-and-weed cookout; it’s a more laid-back and relaxed effort, but it still rocks with a strong and steady roll.

Blue Cheer – Oh! Pleasant Hope sealed 1971 U.S. LP

blue cheer - oh pleasant hope LP

Offered for sale is an original still sealed U.S. pressing of the sixth and final original album by Blue Cheer, Oh! Pleasant Hope.

About this copy: This copy of Oh! Pleasant Hope is a sealed original 1971 U.S. pressing on the Philips label.

As the album is still sealed, the record is presumably new and unplayed.

The wrap is fully intact, with no rips or tears.  There is a punch hole in the upper left hand corner.

A nice copy of a scarce Blue Cheer LP, as all the albums after the first one are rather scarce.

Background: Released in 1971, The Original Human Being was the sixth and final original album by Blue Cheer.  The album did not reach the U.S. album charts.

Allmusic.com gave Oh! Pleasant Hope a 3 1/2 star review:

It’s hard to imagine what would prompt someone to suggest the band that recorded Vincebus Eruptum should get in touch with their pastoral side, but for their sixth album in only four years, Blue Cheer decided to explore something close to folk-rock and they sounded a lot more comfortable with the stuff than anyone had a right to expect. 1971’s Oh! Pleasant Hope featured the same lineup as the previous year’s The Original Human Being (the first time since Outsideinside that the band had the same musicians for two albums in a row), and while the previous album found Blue Cheer trying to buff off some of their rough edges, this one is loose, laid-back, and playful; if it doesn’t hit very hard, it’s one of the most organic and natural-sounding recordings to carry the group’s name.

Blue Cheer – The Original Human Being sealed 1970 U.S. LP

blue cheer - the original human being LP

Offered for sale is an original still sealed U.S. pressing of the fourth album by Blue Cheer, The Original Human Being.

About this copy: This copy of The Original Human Being is a sealed original 1970 U.S. pressing on the Philips label.

As the album is still sealed, the record is presumably new and unplayed.

The wrap is largely intact, with just a small (1/4″ or so) tear on the back in the upper right hand corner.  There is a punch hole there.

A nice copy of a scarce Blue Cheer LP, as all the albums after the first one are rather scarce.

Background: Released in 1970, The Original Human Being was the fifth album by Blue Cheer.  The album peaked at #188 on the U.S. album charts.

Allmusic.com gave The Original Human Being a 3 star review:

Even after cleaning up their act considerably on their self-titled fourth album, Blue Cheer sound positively slick (at least by their standards) on 1970’s The Original Human Being. Though Dickie Peterson was still up front on bass and vocals, guitarist Bruce Stephens had left the group and Gary Yoder, who had contributed to Blue Cheer, came aboard on six-strings and vocals, while drummer Norman Mayell expanded his role, playing occasional keyboards, guitar, and even sitar as Blue Cheer belatedly embraced their Eastern influences on “Babaji (Twilight Raga).” … The Original Human Being feels as if Blue Cheer were trying to build on the lessons learned from their fourth album, but while that record hit just the right note, this one reaches just a bit too far, and it’s most pleasing when the players forget trying to impress us and just go for what feels right.

Rolling Stones – Between the Buttons sealed U.S. mono LP

rolling stones - between the buttons sealed mono lp

Offered for sale is an original U.S. still sealed mono pressing of the 1967 LP Between the Buttons by the Rolling Stones.

About this copy: This copy of Between the Buttons is an original U.S. mono pressing on the London label.

While the shrink wrap has been opened, the plastic bag inner sleeve is still sealed and the record is new and unplayed.

The cover retains the original shrink wrap; there is a hype sticker that reads “Between the Buttons – The Rolling Stones -Including Ruby Tuesday.”

The cover is M-; there is faint wear at the two right hand corners.  There is a small tear in the wrap in the lower right hand corner.

A beautiful copy of a rare mono Rolling Stones LP that would be difficult to upgrade.

Background: Released in February, 1967, Between the Buttons is the seventh American album by the Rolling Stones, and one of their last LPs to be released in both mono and stereo, as mono LPs were phased out the following year.

Allmusic.com gave Between the Buttons a rare 5 star review:

The Rolling Stones’ 1967 recordings are a matter of some controversy; many critics felt that they were compromising their raw, rootsy power with trendy emulations of the Beatles, Kinks, Dylan, and psychedelic music. Approach this album with an open mind, though, and you’ll find it to be one of their strongest, most eclectic LPs, with many fine songs that remain unknown to all but Stones devotees.

Porcupine Tree – Up the Downstair sealed UK red vinyl 2 LP set

porcupine tree - up the downstair red vinyl lp

Offered for sale is a still sealed red vinyl UK pressing of the 2 LP set Up the Downstair by Porcupine Tree.

About this copy: This copy of Up the Downstair is a limited edition 180 gram red vinyl pressing on the KScope label, issued in the UK in 2008.  This is a reissue of an album that was originally released in 1993.

The double album is still sealed; the records are presumably new and unplayed.

A beautiful copy of a terrific LP.

Background: Originally released in 1993, Up the Downstair was the second album by Porcupine Tree.  The album received relatively little notice at the time and did not sell well.

Allmusic.com gave Up the Downstair a 4 star review:

Up the Downstair feels noticeably different in tone from On the Sunday of Life — the humor is nearly invisible, if present at all, and the focus is more explicitly up to date in keeping with Steven Wilson’s long-stated belief that progressive music means incorporating the now instead of rehashing what progressive was. His singing is now more accomplished in turn — it sounds like he might have been taking a lesson or two from his No-Man partner Tim Bowness, but he has his own dreamy approach. His already accomplished studio work seems to have turned even more so with time, and the end result is a delicate, complex, and remarkable effort.
