Beatles – Meet the Beatles sealed 1970 U.S. stereo promotional LP

beatles - meet the beatles U.S. lp

Offered for sale is a still sealed U.S. stereo copy of Meet the Beatles by the Beatles with a promotional punch hole in the cover.

This copy has a number 9 on the back cover, indicating it is a 1969/1970 pressing from Capitol’s Jacksonville, Illinois pressing plant.

About this copy: This copy of Meet the Beatles is a U.S. pressing on the Capitol label, released in about 1970.

As the album is still sealed, the record is presumably new and unplayed.

The wrap is fully intact except for a couple of small tears at the top edge and one near the bottom left of the front cover.

There is a clean punch hole in the upper left hand corner of the cover, indicating that this copy was intended for promotional use.

The label variation is unknown, but most copies of this album with the number 9 on the back cover have green Capitol labels.  A few have been found with black Capitol labels with the “A subsidiary of Capitol Industries, Inc.” on the label.

The record feels somewhat thin, so it’s likely a green label pressing.  (see photo for example)

A nice copy of a scarce early Beatles LP.

Background: Released in January 1964, Meet the Beatles was the first album by the Beatles to be released by Capitol Records, and their second album overall.

The album reached #1 on the U.S. album charts.

Allmusic.com gave Meet the Beatles a 4 1/2 star review:

Meet the Beatles! …was indeed the LP where many millions of Americans were introduced to the Fab Four. As an introduction, there could hardly have been one better. Largely comprised of material released on their second U.K. LP, With the Beatles — the album art offers a blue-tinted spin on that late-1963 release — Meet the Beatles! contains nine of that album’s 14 songs, cutting out almost all the covers … as the years have passed, the emphasis on joyous, exuberant rock & roll means that Meet the Beatles! still sounds fresh and exciting on its own terms.

Josef Krips/LSO – Beethoven 9th Symphony sealed Classic Records Clarity test pressing LP

josef krips - beethoven 9th symphony classic records test pressing lp

Offered for sale is a still sealed 200 gram Clarity vinyl test pressing of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, performed by Josef Krips and the London Symphony Orchestra, and pressed by Classic Records.

This album was originally available only in a box set that contained all nine of Beethoven’s symphonies and was not sold separately.

About this copy: This copy of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony is a 2009 test pressing by Classic Records, pressed on 200 gram clear “Clarity” vinyl.  This title is a reissue of an album that was originally released in 1960 on the Everest label.

As the album is sealed, the record is presumably new and unplayed.  The shrink wrap is fully intact with no rips or tears.

This album is packaged in a plain white cover, and we obtained it from someone formerly associated with the record company.

It appears that the cover was reused, as it has a sticker on the back side with printing that has been crossed out with a permanent marker.

There is a sticker attached to the front of the cover that says, “Classic Records 12/2009 SDBR 3065-9-200g Clarity A/B.”

The disc has a plain Classic Records label on one side; the label on the other side is blank.

A nice copy of a highly sought after classic title, and a hard one to find, as the box set sold quite poorly.

Background: Everest Records wasn’t a well-known label, even during its prime. The label specialized in classical recordings, and some of them are quite good and have long been sought out by audiophiles.

This recording of Beethoven’s 9 symphonies was released in 1960 as a complete box set, and the individual symphonies were also released separately.

Classic Records reissued the entire box set in 2008 or so and that box set is one of that label’s most difficult titles to find.  Classic Records did not release the individual symphonies separately; they are only available in the hard-to-find box set.

Jethro Tull – Aqualung still sealed Classic Record 200 gram test pressing LP

jethro tull - aqualung classic records test pressing lp

Offered for sale is a still sealed 200 gram test pressing of Aqualung by Jethro Tull, pressed by Classic Records.

About this copy: This copy of Aqualung is a 200 gram test pressing by Classic Records, pressed circa 2009.

This issue is an audiophile reissue of an album that was originally released in 1971.

This copy is pressed on black “Quiex” vinyl and has blank Classic Records labels.

As the album is still sealed, the record is presumably new and unplayed.

The disc is packaged in a plain white cover.  There is a sticker on the cover that says, “Classic Records ILPS-9145-200g A/B CRWH.”

The loose wrap is fully intact, with no rips, tears or holes.

A beautiful copy of a rare Jethro Tull LP.

Background: Classic Records was a label that specialized in high quality, heavy-vinyl “audiophile” reissues of rock, Jazz, and classical LPs.

Their albums used high quality mastering from the original master tapes, and their albums were pressed on premium vinyl, with most of them being pressed on dead-quiet “Quiex” vinyl.

Released in 1971, Aqualung was the fourth studio album by Jethro Tull.  The album reached #4 on the UK charts and #7 in the U.S.

Allmusic.com gave Aqualung a 4 1/2 star review:

The leap from 1970’s Benefit to the following year’s Aqualung is one of the most astonishing progressions in rock history. In the space of one album, Tull went from relatively unassuming electrified folk-rock to larger-than-life conceptual rock full of sophisticated compositions and complex, intellectual, lyrical constructs. While the leap to full-blown prog rock wouldn’t be taken until a year later on Thick as a Brick, the degree to which Tull upped the ante here is remarkable…. Varied but cohesive, Aqualung is widely regarded as Tull’s finest hour.

Troggs – Wild Thing sealed U.S. mono and stereo LPs – both covers!

troggs - wild thing two different u.s. lps

Offered for sale is a pair of  still sealed U.S. copies of Wild Thing by the Troggs, one in stereo and one in mono, on two different labels with two different covers!

One is the stereo pressing on the Fontana label with the brown cover.  The other is the very rare pressing on the Atco label in mono with the blue cover that was withdrawn shortly after release.  Both albums have the same track listing.

About this copy #1: This copy of Wild Thing is an original 1966 U.S. issue on the Fontana label.

As the album is sealed, the disc is presumably new and unplayed.

The wrap is fully intact except for a 3″ tear along the spine at the bottom left hand corner.

A nice copy of a terrific LP that is usually found in rough condition.

About  copy #2: This copy of Wild Thing is the original 1966 U.S. issue on the Atco label.

As the album is sealed, the disc is presumably new and unplayed.

The wrap is fully intact except for a 1″ (2 cm) break in the center of the mouth of the cover.

A nice copy of a very rare LP and the only copy of the Atco pressing that we’ve ever seen.

Background: Released in 1966, Wild Thing was the first LP by the Troggs, containing the U.S. #1 hit of the same name.

The album was titled From Nowhere in the UK, where it had a different track listing and a cover that was similar to the U.S. Fontana release.

Due to a contractual dispute, Wild Thing was simultaneously released on two different labels in the U.S., with two different covers.

Both Fontana Records and Atco Records claimed to have contractual rights to release the album in the United States, but the rights were determined to belong to Fontana and the Atco version was quickly deleted and is now quite rare.

You can listen to the title track here:

Paul McCartney – McCartney III sealed limited edition German orange vinyl LP

paul mccartney - mccartney III german orange vinyl LP

Offered for sale is a still sealed orange vinyl German pressing of McCartney III by Paul McCartney.

This pressing was limited to 3000 copies and was sold via Paul McCartney’s European Website.  The album sold out as a preorder.

About this copy: This copy of McCartney III is a still sealed orange vinyl pressing, issued in 2020 on the Capitol label.

As the album is still sealed, the record is presumably new and unplayed.

The cover has the U.S. address for Capitol Record on it, but there is a sticker attached to the shrink wrap that says, “Made in Germany.”

The shrink wrap is fully intact with no rips, tears or holes.  Beautiful copy!

A nice copy of a scarce Paul McCartney LP.

Background: Released in 2020, McCartney III is the eighteenth solo album by Paul McCartney.

Like the previous McCartney and McCartney II, Paul McCartney plays all instruments on this album.

The album reached #1 on the UK album charts and #2 in the U.S.

As part of an elaborate promotion, the album has been (to date) released in thirteen different limited edition colored vinyl pressings.  All sold out nearly immediately as preorders.

Allmusic.com gave McCartney III a 4 star review:

Paul McCartney faced the COVID-19 lockdown of 2020 like he faced so many other unexpected challenges in his life: he set out to make music on his own. The title of McCartney III positions it as a direct sequel to 1970’s McCartney and 1980’s McCartney II, albums he made in the wake of the respective dissolutions of the Beatles and Wings, a sentiment that rings true in some ways but not in others. Certainly, the one-man-band approach unites all three albums, as does their arrival at the dawn of a new decade, yet McCartney III doesn’t contain a clear undercurrent of Paul processing change in the wake of loss. …McCartney III is constructed at a modest scale, the arrangements so uncluttered that it’s easy to hear the years on McCartney’s voice. Maybe he can’t hit the high notes he way he used to, maybe he sounds a bit weathered, but the change in his singing has a profoundly humanizing effect, especially when heard in conjunction with his distinctive drumming and fuzzed-out guitars. Within these contours, it’s possible to trace the distance between the three McCartney albums. Despite these signs of age, McCartney III isn’t an album about mortality, it’s about finding sustenance in rough times.

It’s a Beautiful Day – Choice Quality Stuff/Anytime sealed 1971 U.S. LP

it's a beautiful day - choice quality stuff u.s. lp

Offered for sale is a still sealed original U.S. pressing of Choice Quality Stuff/Anytime, the third album by It’s a Beautiful Day.

About this copy: This copy of Choice Quality Stuff/Anytime is a 1971 U.S. pressing on the Columbia label.

As the album is sealed, the record is presumably new and unplayed.

The wrap is fully intact, with no rips, tears, or holes.

A terrific copy of a scarce It’s a Beautiful Day LP.

Background: Released in 1971, Choice Quality Stuff/Anytime was the third studio album by San Francisco-based It’s a Beautiful Day.

The album reached #130 on the U.S. album charts.

Allmusic.com gave Choice Quality Stuff/Anytime a 3 star review:

Choice Quality Stuff/Anytime is not only the third long-player from It’s a Beautiful Day, it also includes a personnel unique from either of its predecessors. This revolving-door musical cast ultimately resulted in decades of litigation. Perhaps most importantly, it also accounts for the disparate musical styles accompanying all three of the band’s albums. Further, it was during the creation of this disc that lineup number two was replaced by lineup number three — netting a separate band for the “Choice Quality Stuff” side and the “Anytime” side. It’s a Beautiful Day, in essence, was becoming somewhat of a loose aggregate of Bay Area “all stars” by 1972. … There is a distinct blues-based rock & roll attitude on “Creed of Love” and “Bye Bye Baby,” which are more similar to Brit bluesmen John Mayall and Jeff Beck than any previous It’s a Beautiful Day outing. This album is far from a washout. It is likewise remote in its musical representation of the band’s previous sound.

Kiss – The Originals sealed original 1977 Japan 3 LP set

kiss - the originals japan lp

Offered for sale is a fully complete, still sealed original Japanese pressing of the 1977 triple album, The Originals by Kiss, including the original “cap” obi and all inserts.

We rarely have Japanese Kiss albums for sale, as most of them included multiple inserts that are usually missing and we try our best to only offer complete albums for sale.

The Originals not only came with multiple inserts, but also had a “cap” obi that had to be removed from the cover in order to remove the records for play, so the obi was often discarded by owners.  The album also had a cover that is unusually prone to wear.

This copy, on the other hand, is virtually perfect, as it’s been sitting  untouched and unopened since it was new in 1977.

About this copy: This copy of The Originals is a 1977 Japanese pressing on the Casablanca label.

As the album is still sealed, the records are presumably new and unplayed and the album should contain all inserts.

The wrap is fully intact except for a tiny break at the lower left-hand corner (see photo.)  Aside from that, the album is virtually perfect, and will likely be your final upgrade.

This LP should include a complete set of inserts:

  • 12 page booklet (in English) with the band’s back story and photos.
  • 8 page lyric insert with lyrics in English and in Japanese
  • Kiss Army sticker
  • Sheet of 6 trading-card style photos
  • 3 custom inner sleeves that recreate the original album art for the three respective albums.

A gorgeous copy of a classic Kiss set that is extremely difficult to find complete.

NOTE: This album will be shipped double-boxed and is eligible for free Priority Mail shipping in the U.S.

Background:  Released in 1977, The Originals was the first Kiss compilation, and the first example of a Kiss album that was marketed to collectors.

The album, sold as a limited edition item, was a repackaging of the band’s first three studio albums – Kiss, Dressed to Kill, and Hotter Than Hell.

The Originals was only released in the United States, Canada, and Japan.

The inner sleeves for the three LPs were designed to look like their original album covers.  The set also came with various inserts that included a photo booklet, a lyrics insert (for the Japanese release,) a Kiss sticker, and a sheet of Kiss cards.

Allmusic.com gave The Originals a 4 1/2 star review:

Just as Kissmania was getting underway in the mid-’70s, Casablanca issued the limited-edition, specially priced LP box set The Originals. It didn’t contain any unreleased or rare material, it’s just a repackaging of Kiss’ first three records (1974’s Kiss and Hotter Than Hell, and 1975’s Dressed to Kill), which made sense since many of Kiss’ fans just owned their hit Alive! and Destroyer albums. Also included was a 14-page booklet that recounted the band’s history up until that point, as well as six biography trading cards and a Kiss Army sticker (“Kiss Army” was the name of the band’s fan club). The Originals is a much-sought-after collectible among Kiss fans and collectors.

Despite the relatively high price, The Originals reached #36 on the U.S. album charts, probably helped by a TV campaign.

Frank Zappa/Mothers – Uncle Meat sealed U.S. 2 LP set

frank zappa - uncle meat u.s. lp

Offered for sale is a still sealed U.S. copy of the double album Uncle Meat by Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention.

About this copy: This copy of Uncle Meat is a sealed U.S. pressing on the Bizarre/Reprise label.

As the album is still sealed, the records are presumably new and unplayed.

The shrink wrap is fully intact except for a small break at the lower right hand corner.  This copy does not have a hype sticker on the wrap.  There are no cutout marks, such as cut corners or punch holes.

The label variation is unknown; this copy may have Bizarre labels or later Reprise labels.  Most copies included a 12 page booklet; we do not know if this copy has one or not.

A nice copy of a Zappa album that is usually found in rough condition.

Background: Originally released in 1969, Uncle Meat was the seventh album by Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention.

The album reached #43 on the U.S. album charts.

Allmusic.com gave Uncle Meat a 4 1/2 star review:

Just three years into their recording career, the Mothers of Invention released their second double album, Uncle Meat, which began life as the largely instrumental soundtrack to an unfinished film. It’s essentially a transitional work, but it’s a fascinating one, showcasing Frank Zappa’s ever-increasing compositional dexterity and the Mothers’ emerging instrumental prowess. It was potentially easy to overlook Zappa’s melodic gifts on albums past, but on Uncle Meat, he thrusts them firmly into the spotlight; what few lyrics there are, Zappa says in the liner notes, are in-jokes relevant only to the band. …It’s exciting to hear one of the most creatively fertile minds in rock pushing restlessly into new territory, even if he isn’t always quite sure where he’s going. …Though some might miss the gleeful satire of Zappa’s previous work with the Mothers, Uncle Meat’s continued abundance of musical ideas places it among his most intriguing works.

Dire Straits – Brothers in Arms sealed U.S. LP

dire straits- brothers in arms u.s. lp

Offered for sale is a still sealed U.S. copy of Brothers in Arms by Dire Straits.

About this copy: This copy of Brothers in Arms is an original U.S. pressing on the Warner Brothers label.

As the album is still sealed, the record is presumably new and unplayed.

The wrap is fully intact except for a small tear on the front near the bottom edge.  There is a hype sticker attached to the shrink wrap that mentions the songs, “Walk of Life” and “Money for Nothing.”

There is a cutout hole in the upper right hand corner.

A nice copy of a scarce Dire Straits LP.

Background: Released in 1985, Brothers in Arms was the fifth album by Dire Straits.

The album reached #1 on the charts in at least ten countries, including the U.S. and the UK.

Allmusic.com gave Brothers in Arms a 4 star review:

Brothers in Arms brought the atmospheric, jazz-rock inclinations of Love Over Gold into a pop setting, resulting in a surprise international best-seller. …. Dire Straits had never been so concise or pop-oriented, and it wore well on them. Though they couldn’t maintain that consistency through the rest of the album — only the jazzy “Your Latest Trick” and the flinty “Ride Across the River” make an impact — Brothers in Arms remains one of their most focused and accomplished albums, and in its succinct pop sense, it’s distinctive within their catalog.
