Offered for sale is a Japanese white label promotional copy of The Misty Miss Christy by June Christy, including the original obi.

About this copy: This copy of The Misty Miss Christy is a 1984 Japanese pressing on the Capitol label of an album that was originally released in 1956.

The cover is M-. The obi is M-.  The insert is M-.

The white label promo disc is M- and may be unplayed.  Clean disc!

A nice copy of a classic Jazz LP.

Background: Released in 1956, The Misty Miss Christy was the fourth long-play LP by June Christy.

Allmusic.com gave The Misty Miss Christy a 4 1/2 star review:

Using Anita Day as starting point — but eschewing many of her scat-song histrionics in favor of pure tonal power and melancholic shading — June Christy honed her singing skills with Stan Kenton’s band before going solo in the ’50s. Christy’s relatively accessible vocal approach and blonde good looks eventually helped her gain success with such classic long players as Something Cool and The Misty Miss Christy. … Both an essential Christy title and one of the best vocal albums from the ’50s.

Joe Turner – The Boss of the Blues rare 1958 stereo LP

Joe Turner - The Boss of the Blues u.s. stereo lp

Offered for sale is a rare original stereo pressing of The Boss of the Blues Sings Kansas City Jazz by “Big” Joe Turner.

About this copy:  This copy of The Boss of the Blues Sings Kansas City Jazz is a 1958 U.S. stereo pressing on the solid green Atlantic label.

The cover is VG++ and close to M-, with slight discoloration from age, but no wear, writing, or splits.  As with most early stereo Atlantic LPs, this cover is a mono cover with “Stereo Disc” embossed across the top of the cover.

The disc is VG++ and close to M- with a couple of faint scuffs from being removed from the inner sleeve.  There are one or two spindle marks on the labels.  The LP has likely only been played a couple of times.  Clean disc!

It’s quite uncommon to find an R&B album from the 1950s in this kind of condition, especially in stereo.

A terrific copy of a great album, and likely your final upgrade.

Background:  The Boss of the Blues, also known as The Boss of the Blues – Joe Turner Plays Kansas City Jazz, was the “blues shouter’s” third album and his first successful one.

Released in 1956 on Atlantic’s black label in mono, the album was released in stereo on Atlantic’s green label in 1958.  As mono records outsold stereo album by a ratio of about 100:1 in those days, and as Atlantic discontinued using the green label in 1960, original stereo copies of this LP are quite rare.

Allmusic.com gave The Boss of the Blues a rare 5 star review:

During an era when Big Joe Turner recordings were often surprise hits with rock & roll fans (particularly “Shake, Rattle and Roll”), he occasionally recorded no-nonsense blues-oriented jazz dates too. … Turner is in top form on remakes of some of his early tunes (including “Cherry Red,” “Roll ‘Em Pete,” and “Wee Baby Blues”), a few traditional blues, and a couple of swing standards. This music should appeal to many listeners.

Chet Baker – Chet Baker Sings sealed Japan promotional LP with obi

chet baker sings japan promo lp

Offered for sale is a still sealed Japanese white label promotional pressing of Chet Baker Sings by Chet Baker, including the original obi and the original shrink wrap.

About this copy: This copy of Chet Baker Sings is a 1985 Japanese pressing of an album that was originally released in 1956.

As the album is still sealed, the record is presumably new and unplayed.  The disc should have white promotional labels (see photo.)

The cover is M-; there is a promotional sticker attached to the back cover.  The obi is M-.

The wrap is fully intact except for a small break at the lower left hand corner.

A beautiful copy of a classic Jazz LP and one that would be difficult to upgrade.

Background: Released in 1956, Chet Baker Sings was the first album by the trumpeter to feature his vocals, and the public and critics were surprised to discover that Baker was as good a singer as he was a trumpet player.

Allmusic.com gave Chet Baker Sings a 4 1/2 star review:

As Gerald Heard’s liner notes point out, it’s difficult to decide whether Chet Baker was a trumpet player who sang or a singer who played trumpet. When the 24-year-old California-based trumpeter started his vocal career in 1954, his singing was revolutionary; as delicate and clear as his trumpet playing, with a similarly bright and vibrato-free tone, Baker simply didn’t sound like any previous jazz singer…. The spacious musical setting, a simple trumpet and piano-bass-drums rhythm section, is perfect for Baker’s low-key style. Despite the few faults of song selection, Chet Baker Sings is a classic of West Coast cool jazz.

Buffalo Springfield – What’s That Sound? sealed U.S. 180 gram 5 LP box set

buffalo springfield what's that sound u.s. 5 lp box set

Offered for sale is a still sealed copy of the U.S. 5 LP box set, What’s That Sound – Complete Albums Collection by Buffalo Springfield.

This set of five 180 gram LPs, complete with original covers, was limited to 5000 copies on vinyl.

About this copy: This copy of What’s That Sound? is a 2018 U.S. pressing on the Rhino/Atco label.

As the set is still sealed, the records are presumably new and unplayed.

The wrap is fully intact with no rips, tears, or holes.  There is a mark through the bar code under the shrink wrap, indicating that this copy was intended for promotional use.

A beautiful copy of a scarce (and terrific!) box set.

Background: Released in 2018, What’s That Sound – Complete Albums Collection is a box set by Buffalo Springfield that includes the following albums:

  • Buffalo Springfield (1966) – Mono version without “For What It’s Worth” but including “Baby Don’t Scold Me.”
  • Buffalo Springfield (1966) – Stereo version with “For What It’s Worth” but without “Baby Don’t Scold Me.”
  • Buffalo Springfield Again (1967) – Mono version
  • Buffalo Springfield Again (1967) – Stereo version
  • Last Time Around (1969) – Stereo version

The 180 gram discs were mastered by Chris Bell for Bernie Grundman mastering, under the supervision of Neil Young.

Allmusic.com gave What’s That Sound – Complete Albums Collection a 4 1/2 star review:

Buffalo Springfield’s discography received the complete box set treatment in 2001, with a four-disc set filled with previously unreleased demos, alternate takes, and other rarities. In contrast, What’s That Sound: The Complete Albums Collection attempts to restore the discography to how it was heard upon its original release. …. Neil Young supervised the remastering, so the audio is on par with his acclaimed Original Release Series, and the packaging has been replicated, resulting in the rare complete box set that offers a considerable bang for the buck.

Beatles – Ain’t She Sweet 1969 U.S. stereo LP

beatles - ain't she sweet 1969 U.S. stereo LP

Offered for sale is a U.S. stereo pressing of Ain’t She Sweet by the Beatles.

This is the rare 1969 “white border”pressing that was immediately deleted upon release.

About this copy: This copy of Ain’t She Sweet is a 1969 U.S. pressing on the yellow Atco label of an album that was originally released in 1964.

The cover is M-.  There is a saw mark at the upper left hand corner; all copies of this 1969 issue have this.

The original inner sleeve is M- with no splits.

The disc is M- on side one and VG++ and close to M- on side two with a small inaudible scratch through “I’ll Keep You Satisfied.”

A beautiful copy of a very rare Beatles LP.

Background: Released in 1964, Ain’t She Sweet was a compilation album on Atco records that combined four songs by the Beatles (with Tony Sheridan) and eight songs by a band called the Swallows.

The cover art gives the impression that it’s entirely a Beatles album, though the Beatles only play on four tracks.

The 1964 release was issued in mono and stereo on the then-current “two color” Atco labels.

In 1969, the album was briefly reissued on the then-new yellow Atco label, in stereo only.  Unlike the original issue, all copies of the 1969 issue have a white border around the cover, and all copies have a saw mark in the cover.

This suggests that the album was actually deleted upon release, as though the record company manufactured them and then decided not to release it at all.  The album was briefly available in discount bins and was not reissued, making it one of the rarer U.S. Beatles albums.

Allmusic.com gave Ain’t She Sweet this review:

In May 1961, the Beatles were hired as the backup band for singer Tony Sheridan, resulting in the recording of eight tracks, six of which featured Sheridan on vocals, one of which was an instrumental written by John Lennon and George Harrison, and one of which, “Ain’t She Sweet,” featured a lead vocal by Lennon. Some of these recordings were released on singles in 1961, but they began to turn up on albums only after the Beatles became famous. This was the second one to appear in the U.S., and it was even more of a ripoff than most. It contained only four of the recordings, plus eight unrelated tracks by the Swallows, whoever they were.

Elis Regina – Samba, Eu Canto Assim 1983 Brazil stereo LP

Elis Regina – Samba, Eu Canto Assim brazail lp

Offered for sale is a Brazilian stereo pressing of Samba, Eu Canto Assim by Elis Regina.

About this copy: This copy of Samba, Eu Canto Assim is a 1983 Brazilian stereo pressing of an album that was originally released in 1965 in mono only.

The cover is VG+ with moderate edge wear and slight ring wear on the back cover.

The disc is M- with a very faint sleeve scuff on side one and one or two spindle marks on the labels.  It’s a clean disc that has seen little play.

A nice copy of a classic Bossa Nova LP that is usually found in poor condition.

Background: Released in 1965, Samba, Eu Canto Assim was the fifth album by Elis Regina.

Allmusic.com gave Samba, Eu Canto Assim a 4 star review:

Leading a brassy main-room orchestra, Elis Regina exerts a considerable amount of power on 1965’s Samba, Eu Canto Assim!. She swings her way through Edu Lobo’s “Rez” while the strings saw sweetly in the background and salutes great Brazilian composers ranging from Dorival Caymmi (“João Valentão”), Marcos Valle (“Preciso Aprender a Ser So”), and Vinicius and Baden Powell (a potpourri comprising “Consolação,” “Berimbau,” and “Tem Dó”).

Beatles – Ed Rudy Interview LPs – Complete set of five sealed 1964-1965 U.S. albums

beatles - ed rudy u.s. album set

Offered for sale is a complete still sealed set of all three commercially released U.S. Ed Rudy Beatles interview albums, released in 1964 and 1965, with both cover variations of each of the first two LPs.  There are five albums in the set.

These LPs were acquired from someone who purchased them directly from the estate of Ed Rudy.

(The 1964 Ed Rudy Beatlemania Tour Coverage LP, released only as a promotional item, is not included in this set.)

This set consists of five still sealed LPs, made up of three different albums:

  • The American Tour With Ed Rudy (#2) (back cover with photo showing Ed Rudy facing the camera)
  • The American Tour With Ed Rudy (#2) (back cover photo showing Ed Rudy facing to the side)
  • It’s Here Luv: The American Tour With Ed Rudy (#3) rare withdrawn cover with “Beatles” in large red print on front
  • It’s Here Luv: The American Tour With Ed Rudy (#3) second cover without “Beatles” in large red print on front
  • The Great American Tour 1965 Live Beatlemania Concert

All five titles are still sealed original U.S. mono copies.  These came from the estate of Ed Rudy, who recorded, pressed and sold these albums when new in the 1960s.  These are thick, original pressings, and not the later issues or counterfeits.

The wrap on all five LPs is fully intact, with no rips, tears, or holes.  The two copies of The American Tour With Ed Rudy include a copy of Teen Talk magazine and a card explaining the magazine’s contents.

A beautiful, nearly perfect set of rare Beatles LPs that are hard to find individually, let alone as a set.  We’ve had the American Tour With Ed Rudy (#2) LP a couple of times in the past, but this is the first time we’ve even seen original copies of the others.

Background: Journalist Ed Rudy accompanied (or followed; sources differ) the Beatles on their 1964 and 1965 tours of the United States and released several privately-pressed albums containing recordings of him interviewing the band.

The first of the three albums, The American Tour With Ed Rudy, sold fairly well.  The later two albums sold poorly and are quite rare.

The American Tour With Ed Rudy – The first  album, The American Tour With Ed Rudy, also known as “Ed Rudy #2,” as the album says “Documentary II” on the cover, was released in 1964 and original pressings included a copy of Teen Talk magazine, which is almost always missing from used copies of the LP.

This LP was issued with two different back covers – one with a photo of Ed Rudy facing the camera, and one with Ed Rudy facing sideways.  This set includes both versions; one copy of each is included.

It’s Here Luv!!! Ed Rudy With New U.S. Tour – This LP features a news documentary talking about the Beatles’ 1965 U.S. tour.

This LP was issued with two different front covers.  The rare first version shows the word “BEATLES” in large red print above the band photo.  This cover was withdrawn shortly after release and the second cover does not include this print.  This set includes both versions; one copy of each is included.

The Great American Tour 1965 Live Beatlemania Concert – This odd album features interviews with people attending a Beatles concert, along with a “recreation” of a Beatles concert, with songs performed by a group called the Liverpool Lads mixed with actual crowd sounds and announcements from an actual Beatles concert.

Elvis Presley – Christmas Album limited U.S. green vinyl LP

Elvis Presley - Christmas Album U.S. green vinyl LP

Offered for sale is a limited edition U.S. green vinyl pressing of the Elvis Christmas Album by Elvis Presley

This 1985 reissue duplicates the gatefold cover and photo booklet from the original 1957 release.

About this copy: This copy of Elvis Christmas Album is a 1985 U.S. pressing on the RCA label of an album that was originally released in 1957.

The cover is M-; there is a small saw mark near the upper right hand corner.

The green vinyl disc is M- and looks unplayed.  Clean disc!

A nice copy of a classic LP.

Background: Released in 1957, Elvis Christmas Album was the third album by Elvis Presley.

The album reached #1 on the U.S. album chart and #2 on the U.S. album chart.

Allmusic.com gave Elvis Christmas Album a 4 1/2 star review:

Elvis’ 1957 original Christmas album is one of his most inspired early outings and the first time he tackled anything resembling a thematic concept. Split evenly between rockers and bluesy numbers like “Santa Claus Is Back in Town,” “Blue Christmas,” and “Santa Bring My Baby Back to Me,” perennials like “White Christmas,” “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” and “Silent Night,” and straight-ahead gospel favorites like “I Believe,” “Peace in the Valley” and “Take My Hand, Precious Lord,” the disc revealed a different side of the rocker for the first time on a public instead conditioned to expect something outrageous. One of the King’s shining moments, this is quite simply still one of the best holiday albums available.

Elvis Presley -The King Of Rock ‘N’ Roll: The Complete 50’s Masters German 6 LP box set

Elvis Presley -The King Of Rock 'N' Roll: The Complete 50's Masters German LP

Offered for sale is a copy of the 1992 6 LP German box set The King Of Rock ‘N’ Roll: The Complete 50’s Masters by Elvis Presley.

This album was not released on vinyl in the United States.

About this copy: This copy of The King Of Rock ‘N’ Roll: The Complete 50’s Masters is a 1992 German pressing on the RCA label.

This box set includes:

  • 6 LPs, each in a custom sleeve
  • 3 8″x10″ black and white photos
  • A 48 page photo booklet
  • A certificate of authenticity

The box, booklet, certificate, and photos are M-.  The box has a hype sticker indicating the contents and noting that production was limited to 15,000 copies.

The custom inner sleeves are VG++ with slight wear, but no splits.

The 6 discs are VG+, with slight sleeve scuffs, though the discs are unplayed.

Note: This copy comes from our personal collection.  We bought several copies of this album new from a wholesaler in the UK and all of the copies we received had discs with slight scuffs.  This likely had to do with the paper used for the inner sleeves.  We filed this copy on the shelf when we bought it and have never played it.

A nice copy of a scarce (and very good) Elvis set.

Background: Released in 1992, The King Of Rock ‘N’ Roll: The Complete 50’s Masters  was a compilation of every song Elvis Presley recorded during the 1950s.

Released only on compact disc and cassette in the U.S., the album reached #159 on the U.S. album chart.

Allmusic.com gave The King Of Rock ‘N’ Roll: The Complete 50’s Masters a 5 star review:

Most of this is dynamic, thrilling music that presents Elvis at his very best. Historically, this is surely essential, but what makes the box so great is that it’s so entertaining, providing ample proof that Elvis’ music is indeed every bit as influential and timeless as the history books state.

Pink Floyd (Kate Bush) Harvest Sampler 1978 promo-only U.S. LP with rare Pink Floyd track

pink floyd - harvest sampler u.s. promo lp

Offered for sale is a copy of  Harvest Sampler, a U.S. LP issued only for promotional use.

This LP includes “Point Me at the Sky” by Pink Floyd, which has not appeared on any other U.S. LP and “The Man With a Child in His Eyes” by Kate Bush.

About this copy: The cover is M-.  The disc is M- and may be unplayed.  Clean disc!

A beautiful copy of a rare promotional sampler.

Background: Harvest Records was a relatively short-lived label, created as a spinoff of EMI in Britain with the intention of showcasing progressive rock artists.  The label wasn’t overly successful, aside from Pink Floyd, so in 1978, the label released a promo-only LP called Harvest Sampler to radio stations in the U.S. in order to inspire airplay and (hopefully) increase sales.

While the album included primarily album tracks by then-current artists on the label, the LP also included a rare track, “Point Me at the Sky,” by Pink Floyd, who at that time were no longer with the label.

“Point Me at the Sky” was the band’s fifth single in the UK, where it did not chart.  The song was not released as a single in the U.S.

Not only was “Point Me at the Sky” not released as a single in the United States, it has never been included on any commercially released album in LP form in the U.S., either.  This album is the only American vinyl release to include the song.

The version of the song on Harvest Sampler is a rechanneled stereo version created from the original mono mix.

In addition to the Pink Floyd, track, the album is also of note to Kate Bush collectors, as it includes “The Man With a Child in His Eyes” from her then-new Kick Inside album.

Tracks listing:

  • Little River Band – Changed and Different
  • Tom Robinson Band – 2-4-6-8 Motorway
  • King Harry – Fighting Talk
  • Wire – Ex-Lion Tamer
  • Pink Floyd – Point Me at the Sky
  • Be-Bop Deluxe – Panic in the World
  • Strapps – Child of the City
  • Focus – Wingless
  • Kate Bush – The Man With a Child in His Eyes
