The album reached #9 on the U.S. album charts.

Allmusic.com gave L.A. Woman a 4 1/2 star review:

The final album with Jim Morrison in the lineup is by far their most blues-oriented, and the singer’s poetic ardor is undiminished, though his voice sounds increasingly worn and craggy on some numbers. Actually, some of the straight blues items sound kind of turgid, but that’s more than made up for by several cuts that rate among their finest and most disturbing work.

Beatles – Let It Be UK white vinyl LP

beatles - let it be uk white vinyl lp

Offered for sale is a limited edition white vinyl pressing of Let It Be by the Beatles, issued in Great Britain in 1978 for export only.

About this copy: This copy of Let It Be is a 1978 pressing on the Apple label.

The cover is VG+, with slight edge and corner wear and a few minor cracks in the lamination.   For some reason, this title is prone to lamination issues.

The white vinyl disc is M- on side one.  Side two is VG with a hairline scratch across the entire side and two other scratches through the first two tracks.  There are many spindle marks on both labels, suggesting that the record, while well cared for, has been played quite a bit.

It plays with light surface noise.

A nice copy of a scarce Beatles LP.

Background: In the late 1970s, collectors were showing a lot of interest in colored vinyl, so record companies around the world began pressing both old and (then-) new titles on colored vinyl as limited edition pressings.

In Great Britain, EMI Records pressed four different titles by the Beatles on colored vinyl: Magical Mystery Tour (yellow), Abbey Road (green), The Beatles (white), and Let It Be, which was also pressed on white vinyl.

All four titles were pressed for export only, and were not sold within the United Kingdom.  Most, if not all, of those titles were exported to the United States, where they were readily available for the short time they were in print.

All four titles are scarce today.

Let It Be was the final studio album by the Beatles, released in May, 1970.  As the album was technically a soundtrack album to the film of the same name, distribution of the album was handled by ABCKO, the company that belonged to Beatles manager Allen Klein, rather than Capitol Records.

When Apple Records was dissolved in 1975, Let It Be became the only Beatles studio album to go out of print, and it was actually out of print for several years in the late 1970s and occasionally turned up for sale in discount bins.

Allmusic.com gave Let It Be a 4 1/2 star review:

The only Beatles album to occasion negative, even hostile reviews, there are few other rock records as controversial as Let It Be.   … All that said, the album is on the whole underrated, even discounting the fact that a sub-standard Beatles record is better than almost any other group’s best work. …As flawed and bumpy as it is, it’s an album well worth having, as when the Beatles were in top form here, they were as good as ever.

Klaus Schulze (Tangerine Dream) – Picture Music 1975 German LP

Klaus Schulze - Picture Music 1975 German LP

Offered for sale is an original German pressing of Picture Music by Klaus Schulze.

About this copy: This copy of Picture Music is a 1976 German pressing on the green Brain label of an album released in 1976  (The inner sleeve is dated 11/76.)

The cover is VG+, with slight edge and corner wear.  The disc is VG with a few scuffs from the paper inner sleeve, but no significant marks.

A nice copy of a scarce Klaus Schulze LP.

Background: Released in 1975, Picture Music was the fourth album by German electronic musician Klaus Schulze.

Allmusic.com gave Picture Music this review:

Though recorded in August 1973 (shortly after Cyborg), Picture Music was not released until January 1975. The album contains two side-long mantras of electronic meditation, “Totem” and “Mental Door.” … The frenzied drum playing that appears midway through is fairly impressive, but like Vangelis’ Hypothesis, the music’s avant-jazz overtones haven’t aged especially well, and aren’t exactly conducive to meditation (which would seem to be Klaus Schulze’s main attraction). Picture Music is more percussive and limited in scope and effect than the work of Tangerine Dream, a vantage point from which many may be approaching Schulze’s work.

Offered for sale is an original UK pressing of Blackdance, the third album by Klaus Schulze.

About this copy: This copy of Blackdance is a 1974 UK pressing on the Caroline label.

The cover is VG, with moderate ring wear on the front and the back.

The disc is VG+ with some scuffing from the inner sleeve, but no significant marks.

A nice copy of a somewhat scarce Klaus Schulze LP.

Background: Released in 1974, Blackdance was the third solo album by German electronic musician Klaus Schulze.

Allmusic.com gave Blackdance a 4 star review:

Blackdance is one of Klaus Schulze’s early albums. There are lots of predictors that point to where his career would go. The tempo changes are smooth and sure and the sequences are varied — some are deep and strong, others are long on atmosphere. Schulze mixes these elements seamlessly with experimental timbres and spatial textures. He adds an organ drone to give the disc a Baroque attitude and sinister overtones. This is more atmospheric than most of his albums. That gives it a nice appeal and a cool change of pace.

The cover is VG++ with slight edge wear.  The two discs are M- with a couple of spindle marks on the labels, but no marks on the vinyl.

A nice copy of an album that’s hard to find as an early pressing.

Background: Released in 1973, Cyborg was the second album by German electronic musician Klaus Schulze.

Allmusic.com gave Cyborg a 4 1/2 star review:

From the early days of electronic experimentation in the pop field, Klaus Schulze’s second solo album still today it stands as one of the most powerful examples of ambient pulse music ever conceived. The dense layers of rhythm and synthetic tone colors melt into a seamless, flowing soundscape of melody, motion and spatial effects. It’s a monumental double album of “cosmic music.”

The cover is M-with trace corner wear.  The disc is M- and looks unplayed.  Clean disc!

Allmusic.com gave The Extremist a 4 star review:

The Extremist lives up to its name, continuing Joe Satriani’s tradition of exploring new musical and compositional ground. A vastly different array of musicians assists him in creating the songs displayed on this all-instrumental disc, and as such the songs are different from even the usual envelope-pushing Satriani fare.

Police – Outlandos D’Amour Canada half speed mastered audiophile LP

Police - Outlandos D'Amour Canada half speed mastered LP

Offered for sale is a limited edition Canadian half speed mastered audiophile pressing of Outlandos D’Amour, the debut LP by the Police.

This release was part of A&M Canada’s short-lived Audiophile Series of half speed mastered albums.

About this copy: This copy of Outlandos D’Amour is a 1979 Canadian pressing on the A&M label.

While this is technically a Canadian issue, the disc was pressed in Japan by JVC using their proprietary “Supervinyl” compound.

The cover is VG++ with a slight edge wear and a break in the lamination near the upper right hand corner where a price sticker was removed.

The half speed mastered disc is M- with a few spindle marks on the labels, but no marks on the vinyl.  Clean disc!

A nice copy of a scarce Police LP.

Background: Released in 1978, Outlandos D’Amour was the first album by the Police.

The album reached #6 on the UK album chart and #23 on the U.S. chart.

Allmusic.com gave Outlandos D’Amour a 4 1/2 star review:

While their subsequent chart-topping albums would contain far more ambitious songwriting and musicianship, the Police’s 1978 debut, Outlandos d’Amour (translation: Outlaws of Love) is by far their most direct and straightforward release. Although Sting, Andy Summers, and Stewart Copeland were all superb instrumentalists with jazz backgrounds, it was much easier to get a record contract in late-’70s England if you were a punk/new wave artist, so the band decided to mask their instrumental prowess with a set of strong, adrenaline-charged rock, albeit with a reggae tinge. …Outlandos d’Amour is unquestionably one of the finest debuts to come out of the ’70s punk/new wave movement.

Pink Floyd – The Wall 1979 Japan 2 LP set with obi

Pink Floyd - The Wall Japan LP

Offered for sale is an original 2 LP Japanese issue of Pink Floyd’s The Wall, including the original “cap” obi and all inserts.

About this copy: The copy offered for sale is a 1979 Japanese pressing on the CBS Sony label.

The cover is M-.  The “cap” obi is M-.   The original shrink wrap (torn) is included and the clear title sticker is still attached to the wrap.

The two discs are M- and look unplayed.  Clean discs!

A nice copy of a classic LP and the nicest used copy we’ve ever had for sale.

Background: Pink Floyd’s 1979 double album The Wall alienated a few fans and made the band a bunch of new ones.  Regardless of opinion, the album sold in the millions and is highly regarded by audiophiles as being among the best-sounding albums in the band’s catalog.

The long-out-of-print Japanese pressing is generally regarded as the best, and has been on the Absolute Sound’s recommended list for decades.

Allmusic.com gave The Wall a 4 1/2 star review:

The Wall was Roger Waters’ crowning accomplishment in Pink Floyd. It documented the rise and fall of a rock star (named Pink Floyd), based on Waters’ own experiences and the tendencies he’d observed in people around him. By then, the bassist had firm control of the group’s direction, working mostly alongside David Gilmour and bringing in producer Bob Ezrin as an outside collaborator. Drummer Nick Mason was barely involved, while keyboardist Rick Wright seemed to be completely out of the picture. Still, The Wall was a mighty, sprawling affair, featuring 26 songs with vocals: nearly as many as all previous Floyd albums combined.
